I think some people need to learn about the nuances of Scottish football.

"Huns" isn't racist and a court ruled it wasn't even Sectarian.

It's a term used almost exclusively by Celtic fans nowadays towards Rangers fans (and clubs they deem aligned with Protestantism) but in the 50s was a term used by both sides to abuse the other, basically saying they were no better than the Germans with WWII still fresh in the minds. Celtic fans, being aligned with Ireland who were seen as being at best neutral, at worst sympathetic to the Nazis whilst Rangers fans, being drawn largely from Govan, were accused of using the excuse of being shipyard workers to avoid being called up to fight.

Yeah, petty stuff.

In the 60s, after Rangers fans ran amok after a game, a newspaper compared them to rampaging Huns (as in Attilla, the) and the name stuck.

At least, this is how various Bluenoses and Tims have explained it to me over the years ^_^

Thanks for the cultural explanation... As you say, petty stuff.

3/10 for mentioning of toys and prams and laughing at people who are unhappy about racism or xenophobia. You could get a higher score by including snowflakes, cancel culture, woke or any of the other cyclechat greatest hits. Even some fish puns might help.

Nobody else has seen fit to report it or has picked up on it even after scouring the mentioned thread for it.
Few have been scouring the football thread because the topic is so boring that people would want to drill holes in their head to let the dull out again, plus some of us hoped/assumed that the post had been removed by now and it was just that the mods were a bit slow while they deliberated about a borderline matter.

More generally, I don't agree with some posts above that casual racism or xenophobia being widely accepted among football fans (if it indeed still is: I hoped the "Kick Racism Out" campaigns had some effect) is a good reason to allow it to pollute a cycling fan site.

But the thread isn't about football, or it didn't start out about football, its about someone getting their knickers in a twist about a word they don't like on a CC thread that happens to be about football.
"The moderater who at will closes / locks / deletes threads refuses to do anything about an openly racist comment on the football thread."

First line of the OP. This thread was always about football.

So your solution to not liking football is trepanning?
