Had a mechanical going downhill on a club run, chain came out and scratched up my brand new crank :cursing:

I've now sorted the derailleur but should/can I do anything about this

It is presumably made of cast alloy, so it won't rust in the accepted meaning of the term, although it may discolour.

I probably wouldn't do anything with it, but I suppose you could knock off any flakes with very fine emery cloth.

How disappointing for you, it's scratched right through the anodised finish. You could look for a car touch-up paint in the same grey, which would disguise the scratches a little. After painting the scratches you could try spraying the crank with 2-3 layers of clear lacquer as well, which will further disguise the damage and protect the paint repair.

I think the best idea would be to take the whole crank off, sand it down and respray. Of course you would have to do the other side too.

Black touch up paint from Halfords (other car part outlets are available) most of my black cranks have been touched up with paint you will forget about it eventually,

You could/maybe get them re-anoidised

It's a tough call tbh. In my mind, there is nothing worse than a poorly touched up scratch. I would rather see the scratch than a blob of paint raised all around the scratch. There are ways and means of doing it properly, but a touch up pen isn't always the best way.

I have 105 cranks and get those scratches all the time. Pain in the 'arris, but I just leave 'em. The finish on 5700 black is crap! Should have gone Silver 5700!

These are less scratches and more gouges, still I did a 50 mile ride yesterday with them, I was just worried about corrosion etc.
