I hate wet feet and I am not a fan of overshoes. In winter I simply remove clipless pedals and go with flats and loose toe clips and my walking boots. I don't mind the rest of me getting soaked and find wool thermals at least mean if I get soaked I stay warmish. For really heavy rain and when I have no choice but to cycle I have a set of cheap surplus army goretex trousers. I'm not much a fan of the camo look but it keeps me dry and I am in no position to be buying new goretex anytime soon. For what its worth I like to wear a wool shirt when cycling and I find that wool can be surprisingly good at keeping out the showers depending on how tightly woven it is. My shirt is a felted material and it takes a good hour or twos worth of drizzle before starting to feel damp. Obviously I do carry a back up jacket for when it really hoofs it down. Though I should point out I have never been one for cycling specific clothing myself and have never found it much of a problem to be honest.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
The only thing I'm currently missing is some decent waterproof tights - I've got the baggy ones, plus a few tights/bib longs, but a good and cheap pair of waterproof tights still elude me.

You could always get leather ones.

If you have a TK Maxx nearby check out their sports stuff for top base layers, same with sportsdirect, i just picked up a base layer which was advertised for golfers, its the business! very warm. Hate wool against my skin so its synthetics all the way for me

Had a look in Sports Direct at the weekend. All they seemed to have was some Muddy Fox stuff. Anybody know anything about it? It's pretty cheap but is it inexpensive or simply "cheap"?

I have found Tenn stuff ok. I have some bib shorts made by them which have been fine. Only problem being they look fetishy even by lycra standards and my partner laughs at me.

Well I wanted to support my LBS but unfortunately my pocket didn't run to it  so ened up ordering some stuff from wiggle. I ordered dhb Vaeon Reflex Roubaix Padded Bib Tights which I wore for the first time today and seem to be ok. Not sure if they are going to be quite warm enough when it gets really parky so may end up getting some overtrousers as well. I also oredered a dhb Signal Jacket which hasn't arrived yet so can't report on that - I'm just wearing a thermal base layer and a Karrimor running top which is ok at the moment but I think as the temperature drops it won't be up to much so, hopefully the dhb jacket won't be too long!
