This could all be avoided if we reduced the number of bicycles on the road by taxing them and forcing them to take appropriate insurance. Would also help with austerity targets of Osborne /Cameron.

I empathise and not quite sure how to give advice. The issue, and how it has blown up isn't your fault.

Have you had any correspondence from any of the cycling bodies like the CTC or are you a member at all?

I wish the blinkered media would see past the car/cyclist, and report it like it is, one road user assaulted another road user?

Then add in the aggravating factor that it was a vulnerable road user that was assaulted.

Would car heads be so dismissive if it was the van driver had chased down another car, pulled the driver out and assaulted him?

Edit: My life has never been threatened by a cyclist/ped/horse rider, only by the driving of larger/faster vehicles.

I think all motorists should have to have some cyclists awareness training within their tests. I don't drive but I wouldnt mind learning something which could save me a life of guilt and remorse.

btw, least Chris Boardman is on the case, you might get a Halfords bike ;-)

Stephen - you know you've got a lot of friends here. There may be a limit to how much practical support most of us can give but if you ever need reassurance that, whatever it may feel like, it's not you alone against the whole of an uncontrollable internet, you know where to come.

I've been dithering over joining CTC for the last six months but never got around to it. One of my YouTube commenters suggested they might help me out in the wider interests of cyclists but I don't want to ask.

Oh and I have no dealings with HotSpot Media, which I had not heard of until this morning but has claimed copyright on mine and a friend's works on the story sold to the Daily Hate. I think I'm going to need a solicitor.
