Didn't he have to take a shower? I told him it was ok to do that whilst Johan checked our bona fides...

Apparently peroxiding your hair destroys the traces so if LA or KK come out looking like Billy Idol, be very suspicious!

Joop Zootemelk won the Worlds at the age of 39 <snip> And Bartali won a TdF stage at the age of 35.

Serious question. Did either take an 18 month break?

Consider that AND the prep LA has so far done. I don't doubt LA's will to win, nor his former/current athletic shape but he'll be coming from a long way back to win a GT stage. Not saying it can't be done but it'll surprise me if he does. And that is said without prejudice, genuinely.

And, no, I still have no idea what kl means

So, that explains why most of the Festina Team bleached their hair in 1998

Much as I dislike Lance and the hype and even the hype of Lance, the memories of him riding to his pace on the Alpe, or at Luz Ardiden in 2003, or him descending after vinokourov, recovering in time when beloki's tyre blew and he went down and then piling across the field to stay in contention on the descent into Gap.

Hate im. be puzzled or love him. He was and maybe is an astonishing bike rider.

I don't have the dislike of Armstrong that some people show and have admired and been inspired by many of his performances in the past. However I think that although his dedication may still be high I will be very (pleasantly) suprised if he stands on the top step at the end of any of the stages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I realise that this is probably the question of an idiot, but are we serious about the bleached hair thing? Feel free to have fun at my expense.

Yello, you've got a point about the lay-off, and the lack of time to get back in race shape. And what I didn't mention that Zootemelk's win was really a result of the most extraordinary silliness by Stephen Roche amongst others, who didn't chase because they didn't want to wind up at the back of the bunch...doh! second in the Worlds is nowhere, fools! I'm racking my brains to think of somebody who, in recent times, has 'come back' after injury.

I wouldn't dispute that at all, or his personal commitment to advocacy in favour of cancer charities, or his commitment to his own charity and to cancer sufferers and survivors.

What I do find hard to take is his "old school" attitude to the problems pro-cycling has as a sport, and to doping and dopers in particular. He seems out of step with the way the sport was heading, to me, and he has sufficient gravitas, fame &c to make things head in another direction. The cancellation of his own program of testing (with Don Catlin), the reaction to Basso and Landis' return, they could all have been handled very differently, and in a way that would have made a huge difference to the future of the sport. (All imo, of course)
