I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this. I know it's yet another LA thread but this is a cycling forum!

"I'd be disappointed if I didn't win one stage, I don't care if it's a time trial or mountain stage," he said.

Without any prejudice, I do think he'll be disappointed... or I'll be very surprised! He's hardly had an ideal preparation and I don't think his form in the Tour of Gila was great.

Sorry, what does this mean? I thought it was some kind of typo and was expecting you to correct it! Is it text speak? Cool perhaps?? I'm serious btw! The only kl I know is Kuala Lumpur!!

All 'stuff' aside, he's always been a rider for the big occasions, capable of taking stages. He could do it in the Giro and if he can't, then I'll have serious doubts about future races.

the only person who has any real idea is Armstrong, and, if he says he can win a stage my guess is that he means it, however unlikely it seems to the rest of us. Joop Zootemelk won the Worlds at the age of 39, and came close to winning a TdF stage after that (iirc - but please correct me if I'm wrong - it was up the Puy de Dome). And Bartali won a TdF stage at the age of 35.

I remember seeing Armstrong close up on the Champs Elysee in 2004. All the cyclists had extraordinary physiques (the Babe was paying the closest attention). But Armstrong was different - he had less fat, he looked harder, his face had almost no flesh on it. I've no idea how he'd achieved this, but it was striking. Combine that with the sheer bravado that followed the 'Beloki moment' and you're dealing with something unique. You don't have to like it, but he is one of a kind, perhaps the greatest competitor since Kelly.

Kelly being the gritty oirish bloke !

Though when I see pro cyclists it never fails to amaze me the size of them most only being about 5'10.
