I think the best main dealership sales person was this woman who told us all the negatives about the Ford SUVs that were what Ford were trying to push everyone towards. She basically told us that they were not as safe as the normal cars whos platform they come from. One she said had dropped an NCAP star as Ford took some feature off and the extra weight was a negative on safety too. Also got told about some dodgy engines in certain models too. She was honest and since she was a mother and we had our then young kid with use she focussed in safety. Good sales technique perhaps but she took over from a male colleague who was pushing the SUVs until a guy drove up who looked like he was a higher commission. That was when he ditched us without a comment and the saleswoman took over. Quite frankly we would never have bought from the man because his attitude was pure super salesman chasing commission.

In the end we chose to buy a van and convert it instead. The visit was a genuine look but we were wavering between car and van. In the end the van dealership had a feel of a family affair even though it was a big used van dealership locally. Our van had these strange dents and the dealership said they would paint them properly and colour match them. We got it and noticed downt he road that the pain was very roughly painted on and was a lighter colour completely. You could tell it was not even close and it had brush strokes dried into the paint. They have not rusted so TBH we do not care. We're selling it now and won't bother doing anything with them. It just makes me think all dealerships do ans say different things. If you do not confront them before the deal is completed then you have to live with it or claim against warranty. Dealerships do not get affected byt the lies or dodgy practises. I often think the bigger ones are worst in many cases. The smaller dodgy ones tend to get shut down or sanctioned I reckon. I know a few dealerships we used to visit who were actually shut down by trading standards.

It’s quite astounding how many places selling things can’t grasp this simple concept

The late, great Driff Field, author of several guides to second hand book shops, coined a memorable acronym for such salesmen (usually men!):
FARTS (follows around recommending the stock).

All the more reason for supporting local retailers, only buying known brands online and avoiding high value online purchases which aren't from a reputable known brand.

Yes, I do shop online but primarily with companies that have a reputation to lose. If the quality or safety of an item is unimportant I would use Amazon but it does need to be something that doesn't really matter much.

It's a very fair point but I'm a cheapskate. Recently my Amazon sourced tablet failed just after 12 months but Amazon were kind enough to refund me for it once I returned it. Then with that refund of about £54 I managed to get a Doogee T30 Pro tablet on Amazon reuse for £60. Both the original and the replacement tablets are great models but the T30 Pro is fantastic. I can't believe how good the tablet is for £60. True 20MP camera sensor, amazing performance, 8GB of memory, 256GB of storage and its also a phablet so can be used as a mobile too. I couldn't be happier with my purchase except I didn't get the free keyboard/case that some T30 Pro's get. I just got the standard case. A cheap £10 256GB micro sd card has doubled the storage too. Battery life is amazing like 20hrs or something as the chipset is built on a 6Nm fabrication process. Powerful enough to emulate the Switch for very basic Switch games, not that you would get 20hrs doing that. However that same £60 will buy you a completely mis-sold and junk tablet on Amazon too.
