Are we being forced to go electric?

More wheels than sense
Latest 'claim / worry' but 'those in the know' is that the greater combined individual weights of EVs over ICE vehicles will cause issues with the construction integrity of existing multi storey car parks.
Hmm.

Not just EV's but average car weights are so much higher than most multi storey's were designed for.

Also would an EV Mini / city car etc weigh more than the average full size ICE powered SUV ?

Mini Electric is about 1440kg, so not too bad, although 60kg heavier than my large ICE saloon car. Mini's aren't small.

Standard Cooper is about 1,200 kg. The old mini 600-700kg !!!

But as ugly as many other electric SUVs…if not more so!!! 🤢
I think we've established that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that you aren't keen :-)

Personally I quite like the look of the Ariya.
And starting at a mere £43k with reductions  and a range estimated at 200-220 miles.
Presumably even more expensive for bigger battery!
looking at about £50k before reductions for the 87kwh battery which gives about 329 miles.

And today, we're informed that certain light fingered folk are now stealing chargers and / or cables for sale on the black market with chargers fetching up to £200 and cables £50.

A Suzuki Ignis is still comfortably under a tonne, gets five stars in NCAP, and probably has a lot more interior space than any MINI or Mini. It's a very Japanese piece of styling, though!

For 15 grand you can convert it to a full EV!*

*I think this means the conversion kit is worth more than the car...

I've no idea what car it is. Maybe his partner has the 4x4 and doesn't do the school run

Seems a silly place for a school, don't they lay on buses? Private school presumably. Many of the state schools around here have no car exclusion zones at school drop off and pick up times

Speaking of 4x4's and school runs...

One I see on my dog walk most mornings. Woman lives in a cul-de-sac in the village and takes her toddler to the child minder each weekday morning.

The child minder lives in another cul-de-sac that backs on to the woman's. A nice easy walk of less than a hundred metres, probably closer to 50, using the footway that cuts between the two, the same footway along which I stroll with the dog.

But no, she spends an age loading toddler into her Honda CRV and then drives out onto the main road, along a bit, into a side street and then into child minders cul-de-sac, a journey of a quarter mile or more.

Being lazy is one thing. While I'm disciplined and don't agree with laziness I do at least understand it. However, in recent years the trend appears to be for people to put an amazing amount of time and effort into their attempts at being lazy, far in excess of the energy and time required just to do it the normal non-lazy way and I really struggle to get my noggin round it.

If you're after vfm you'd not be looking at brand new cars though.
I dunno. Recently took Mrs D's mini Electric in for its first safety check and was offered what we paid for it to sell it back, suchnis the demand for new tin and the scarcity of supply.

We didn't take them up on it, as the 6 to 8 month wait for another would have left her carless in the meantime, but that notwithstanding 6 months motoring in a brand new car for free had we gone for it would have been tremendous good value.
