Carbon fibre... LMAO!!!
Now that I've discovered that it is the Lycra more so than the ignore-and-not-wave that offends people, I'm going back to Lycra. However, this time, I'm wrapping, rather than merely cladding myself in the stuff. If there is anything else I can do to get the point across that I don't do gratuitous greeting, please let me know. Metallic Oakleys? Carbon bike? I'll do anything.

White shoes and ankle socks that come up to mid calf. Those crimes alone should get you shot.

I gave up on the lycra round about covid time and ever since when I see one of those helmeted, lycra wrapped plebs on their plastic bikes I think to myself, "You're a massive c**t" and take pride that I'm no longer one of them ^_^

How nasty.

Why assume somebody is such a thing because of what they wear?

And why on earth be "proud" of not wearing it?

You should wear what you personally find most comfortable and practical for the cycling you do.

And you shouldn't judge anybody for choosing to wear something different to what you do.

Unbelievably judgmental. Just because someone's not riding the right kind of bike, or wearing the right kit you judge them like that.

Come on @Dogtrousers , normally I agree with your POV on here, but I have to say that bike snobbery is alive and well, and it's the "look at me with all the gear and mega expensive bike" that are the worst.

I speak as one who sometimes goes out on an old MTB, no helmet, no lycra... and get universally ignored by other cyclists unless they are on similar. As I fully expect, by the way.
However I also sometimes use my Merida carbon framed road bike, wear lycra and a helmet, and other roadies are all smiles and waves!
I also ride a Ridgeback tourer, and a Genesis Croix de Fer. And an e-bike too. I mostly find that other cyclists will nod or wave, only when I am on a similar bike to them. I am fine with that.
But it's the lycra roadies who are the judgemental ones, IMHO..

In rather poor taste, and not very funny.

But much better than you actually thinking that way

I do not understand this idea that due to using the same mode of transport means you should acknowledge each other with a wave even though you don't know them. I acknowledge people I know or see regularly when walking, cycling or in my campervan. Otherwise my only acknowledgement is a wave of thankyou if you let me out / pass or other gesture if I'm in a bad mood and you don't.

What is this need for the validation of a wave from a fellow cyclist? Learn to be happy in yourself without others to boost your self esteem.😉

No validation needed (and it's not about people on specific forms of transport); I just find it a bit odd to pass someone in a quiet/empty/rural setting and not acknowledge the existence of the other human being. Wouldn't generally do it in the car granted; but then we're both surrounded by our protective anti-social bubbles.

Agreed. Most of my cycling is on quiet country roads, and I always say Hi and or wave to other cyclists, and also to pedestrians on those roads.

Perhaps its more important to smile and wave to toddlers whose Mums are too busy with phone to engage with their own children

Well, if you could point out any posts on here calling people "massive c***ts" for riding ratty old steel bikes, you might have a point.

But you can't. So you haven't.
