Are my Jockeys knackerred or is my chain too long?

Put a larger cassette on the bike last night I followed the park tool guide to get the chain length; everything shifts fine in the big ring but in the wee ring the lower jockey is used more not meshing right with the chain. I'm struggling to get the chain off to check (as per Sheldon) but the calculators all say 54links for a 52/28 (big/big) combo on a 16.5 inch chain stay. Have the experts on this forum0022 any idea?

So am I right in thinking that the cassette is new but original chain and jockey wheels?

Jockey wheels wear out to and go 'star' shaped and become quite 'rattley' in the cage.

Yes the jockey wheels are completely knackered and it looks like the 'b' screw adjustment needs a tweak which you need to do after they're replaced. Did you check the maximum size of cassette that rear mech will take by the way?

I would ride it for a while and see if the new chain beds in OK. I change jockey wheels when the bearings wear out causing them to wobble around on the center pin.

Looks spot on to me. You might have cage twist, dunno. I haven't had any problems with my road mechs in 20 years but long mechs do get stick. Thats too new.

Clean the lot, and strip and rebuild the jockey wheels

Done a couple of recounts on the new chain its 55 links but I suspect rb is right the jockeys are worn out. I must admit I got the 11-28 Ulegra cassette cheap and never checked the 105 capacity just went by a couple of opinions. The previous chain for 26t cassette was 54links

Clean the jockey wheels as they look either worn or full of Crap.
