I thought about buying my latest bike because the frame and the spec were what I was looking for. I bought it because they took 15% off, its exclusivity and looks.

Most bikes these days are excellent, so you can afford to be led by price and looks once your spec and frame demands are met. At least imo.

Looks and function for road bikes. Have to look good.

MTB's can be industrial, but still need good lines.

Neither would I buy a GT bike where the seat stays came in under the top bar.

Agree with that. A fair few bike manufacturers are going down that route now. BMC (who for some reason bike mags say invented the look, except we all know it was GT) and Giant for example.

Another one for me is bendy seat stays... nope... not for me...nice and straight all the way...

Never sacrifice style for speed.

The look of a bike is high up on my list of priorities. I wouldn't buy a crap/ill fitting bike because it looked good, but then equally I'd never buy a high-spec, great fitting bike if it was a pig to look at.

Everyone wants to look good cycling ;) I don't think it has ever swayed my bike choice, however female bikes tend to be girly colours my sister was recently mortified when her husband bought her a bike so she could go out with himself and their children, he bought a lovely girly lilac Raleigh with flowers on and a basket ..... needless to say I remind her at every opportunity and remind her I my beloved Boardman is my favourite blue colour
I would refuse to buy a 'women's bike' if it was in girly pink or lavendar, or had flowers on it.
I would also refuse to buy a bike that looked like it could take part in the TdF - because I would look really stupid riding it at my pace.
And very pale colours show the dirt too easily.
Other than that, as long as it is comfy to ride, with low enough gears to get me up the hills, I don't mind what it looks like!
