Anyone tried to get dental treatment while this lots is going on?

I decided the other day that i'd had enough of my much in need of cosmetic help teeth. Silly me went along to a local dentist then saw the 'we are closed' sign on the door. It'll wait,as they've been poor for years,so another month or so i can take. Serious question. This keeps popping up on screen.

I had softish plastic retainers as a kid not too dissimilar to those ghastly things and they rubbed my gums summat rotten. They were specifically made for my mouth too. I would wager that these would rub somewhere and it'll just be more landfill....

However, with claims such as 'Beautiful dentures make you more smile' I understand would make it difficult to say no

Nothing for £3 is going to be much good (but good cosmetic dentistry can run into 000s)

I had some fillings in January. I kind of hoped for rather than expected a bit of cosmetic work on the NHS as well, as my previous dentist polished them and other stuff on the NHS. Anyway,this dentist had that 'get em in ,then get 'em out manner. Patients that is,not teeth. She offered me a consultation with her private dentist department. I thought about it,then as said before,i decided to see what could be done,but by another closer to home dentist.
My main concern is the middle bottom teeth. I call them my queen mum teeth,as like her's did,they've gone a grey colour. They're also chipped on top. They were ok till i had that radiotherapy 12 years ago. I asked the dentist who did my fillings if it was that that stained them. No,it was just 'wear and tear','drinking tea and coffee' she said. My top front two teeth are also slightly marked and the tip came off one of them. The dentist a few years ago put a kind of cap on it,but when that came off the dentist who i last saw just filed it down. To me it looks uneven. So what i want is maybe those veneers fitting. Though if they did fit them would they stand out against my other slightly yellowing teeth? All this will have to be discussed with a cosmetic dentist. Do you know if you have to pay for the consultation? I'm thinking that you do,though if you go ahead with the work they'll knock that off the price. Yes,i know it will eventually cost me maybe thousands,but i'll feel so much better if they can fix them!
I can't have extractions by the way,unless they got really bad. (If i could i'd think about getting the middle bottom ones pulled and getting false ones) Then if that was the case it'd have to be done in the maxillofacial clinic.

Well, my DIY coronavirus dentistry is working out pretty well.

The government (chief dental officer) has basically stopped all dentistry apart from urgent care at urgent care centres (UDC). Severe dental injuries and infections are still being seen in hospitals.

Dentistry is a very high risk for virus transmission, not to mention those packed waiting rooms and travel so something had to be done. So it was stopped.

Last I heard NHS practices were to be paid 1/12 of their yearly turnover per month provided they paid the staff and all staff to be made available for NHS work. Not heard about private practice as I'm 100% NHS employed.

What goes on around the country may be different but here where I work in a UDC hub the general routine is.......

Patient with problem phones local NHS dental practice to speak to a dentist (do not have to be a registered patient as dentist is being paid to speak to anybody)

Dentist carries out AAA (advice analgesia antibiotics) to help with problem

If dentist thinks needs face-face treatment (extraction etc) refers to Urgent Care Hub via secure email

Hub triage nurse contacts patient to check details and covid hot/ warm / cold etc.

Hub Dentist contacts patient, videocall / attend anywhere / zoom / photos to review problem and if required makes appointment in the UDC

Patient arrives at hub, does not touch anything, disinfects hands, mask and is escorted to surgery by nurses in PPE (past my office, no PPE for me)

Meets dentist and nurse in full PPE, tested PFF3 mask, gown etc and has treatment.

Patient is escorted out of the building, PPE discarded, surgery closed for 30 minutes while any aerosol / droplets settle.

More PPE to clean down the surgery.

So for an extraction of a broken tooth is high Street dentist / receptionist / nurse then UDC triage nurse, UDC receptionist, UDC nurse runners, UDC dentist and nurse (in full PPE) and the admin to track it all for the NHS.


Plan is to keep everyone safe and drive down R but tricky to do that for all dental patients.

Minds much cleverer than me thinking about Dentistry post covid.
