I spotted something similar on a small housing development in Mytholmroyd - HERE. I don't know whether that was a requirement when the council gave planning permission, or whether the developers just decided that it would be a good idea.

I wouldn't fancy leaving an expensive bike out there but it would be handy for 'parking' a cheap runabout bike that you wouldn't be too worried about losing to a bike thief. I suppose that you could use a very hefty bike lock which could be left permanently attached to the stand so you wouldn't have to worry about carrying it.

Hebden Bridge went 'hippy' many years ago! In fact, some of the grandchildren of the hippy 'offcumdens' are now just about of child-bearing age!

I first visited the town in the mid 1970s when it was still very run down - with derelict mills and houses. The alternative types who moved there liked the area and could afford the then-suppressed cost of housing.

Most of those mills have now be converted into accommodation, and the houses restored.

I noticed an increase in the more affluent type of resident when Media City opened in Manchester. I reckon that quite a few people who moved up from London to work there ended up buying homes in the Calder Valley. The house prices certainly started going up faster!

Getting back to bike parking ... there aren't really a lot of bike parking spaces in the Calder Valley. I usually just see bikes locked to road signs or benches. Most of Hebden Bridge now has parking meters or residents' parking only. With such pressure on parking space, it would be a very good trade-off to provide 10 bike places at the cost of one car space. In fact, I reckon that they could squeeze bike places in where cars can't go, such as the corners of car parks. Quite a lot of corner space is wasted because cars would get trapped if they parked there.

My step daughter tried to get for one in her street in bristol.
The General response to the flyers put through the doors to gauge opinion was that many people who couldnt park outside their own house objected to a cycle parking facility outside a house where the owners didnt have a car , because they wanted to park there.

But why is that funny? Why is it acceptable to use <google> 11.5 m^2 of public land to store your car, but nothing else?
I don't want to store my car in it i want to store my timber / wood in it .
Why is it funny , well it was a thing called a joke .
