It's only whilst one is unscrewing something and a very wee but vital component whizzes out with a resounding ' ping ', then is ricoched into the far regions of the room you are working in that you need to worry - !
You sound like someone who's serviced a Sturmey Archer AW3

Do you fancy re-fitting the pawl springs in my Maillard freewheel block?
Are they like a little leaf spring with a pin on the end at 90 degrees ? I used to strip freewheels when I was a kid...that brings back memories.

The opposite is the case with the Campag PowerTorque chainset. A truly crap design when it comes to removal to service the bearings..

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Why did it take James May so long to put that loco back together? Hardly difficult or complex. For example IME assembling that motor takes seconds rather than the time he dragged it out. Total should have been minutes not hours.

Only thing that's beaten me was a washing machine, the drum bearing had worn out.

Apparently the newer washing machines have a sealed drum with no servicable bearings, and a new drum cost nearly as much as a new washing machine..
