well done you, took my daughter into toys r us, I love that place they actually encourage kids to ride around on the shop bikes, nothing like try before you buy as my daughter went tearing past customers on a Barbie skidder( childs recumbent trike).

How are they still in business? I have only been in a Halfords maybe 3 times in 20 years and I spend loads on bike bits!

Looks like they're set to destroy the Wiggle outfit soon

i had a similar 'good will gesture' in argos when i returned a faulty DVD player... the one i returned cost me £40 11 months ago, and the equivalent DVD player in their current catalogue is £50, so they tried to charge me £10 to get a faulty DVD player replaced. cut a long story short, finally got the manager over, who stood his ground until I said I'd quite happily write to their head office about the matter, and i'll also point out that the manager, whom is called Paul has a name badge saying David (i used to work in the same store, so i know the jumped up little prick)... at that point i got a 'good will gesture', at which point i told him it's not good will, it's my consumer rights, and i may still write to your head office mate!

Worthing by chance?? Brighton & Shoreham are better!

I once asked the guy in brighton to reserve a product on their PC so I could get it half price! He was fine with it!

I'd go as far as to say that Halfords as as business deserves to fail and close. It's a testament to the UK public that it's still in business, sad really.

What people tend to forget is that halfords larger percentage of sales are car parts and car accessories

Its product portfolio consists of three categories: car maintenance (including car parts, servicing consumables), car enhancement (including in-car entertainment systems, cleaning products, accessories, interior and exterior car styling products) and leisure (including cycles and cycle accessories and roof boxes, cycle carriers, child car seats and outdoor leisure equipment).

The board anticipates Halfords to post pre-tax profits in the range between £124 million and £127 million for the full year 2011 on sales of £869 million comprising £771 million at the retail division and £98 million at Autocentres.

Will we see it close down? I doubt that very much

Well done FM can I borrow your children so I can get a better discount on my new bike ;)

Fascinating, is it not, how so many people working in retail nowadays automatically go into confrontational mode when faced with an unhappy punter?

My usual first response in such a situation is to try "Look, it's not my fault you're having a bad day. Would you like to start this conversation again and see if you do any better next time?"

Yes it was the Worthing store Rusky!

A word of warning about those Spokey things... having bought two packets, even after doing both the bubs bikes there were a fair few left over - so #2 insisted I should put them on my bike, i'm all in favour of anyhting that makes me more visible/coud help prevent an accident so thought why not...
They don't half make a rcaket when you fly along at 25+mph!! On Monday i had to keep looking down to check i hadn't got a falt tyre all i could hera was Whapwhapwhap sound as the wind whoosed accross them - They have now been moved onto my MummyBike that rarely goes above 10mph

And yes Norman You can borrow my children anytime ;)

Referring back to the topic and staff assertations that the 3 for 2 offer only covered lights, locks and luggage. A few days ago I purchased a bottle cage, a pair of bottle cage securing straps (1 pack) and a pair of pump clips (1pack) from Halfords, Harlow. I received the pump clips free because they were the cheapest item.

Perhaps they class the bottle cage and the pump clips as luggage!!

I would say the customers are often rude an arrogant. I remember a particular time in Hellfrauds when some arrogant charlie talked down their nose to one of the bike sales staff because there was a wait. It certainly wasn't the shop assitants fault.

Subheading to this thread says a lot. They [shop assistants as intimated ] weren't trying to rip the OP off. Perhaps the online web promotion was poorly written. Go into any large retailer these days and you'll get a lot of the same.

Hellfrauds get a lot of bad press which is a little unfair. I think it is very dependant upon the particular store. The sales staff in Hellfrauds have always been friendly to me, albeit often clueless. Just last week I turned up at the local at 6pm asking them to look at my gears as they weren't going in certain gears (front & rear). 30 mins later they had swapped the gear cables and charged me for the parts alone (no labour). I have the annual bike plan but didn't have the card/receipt. The assistant was particularly helpful.
