Since resuming my cycling about 5 months ago I received my first yelled mouthful of abuse from a friendly "motorist" last night. The fog was pretty dense around here and I was cycling along a well lit but narrow stretch of road. I was wearing a hi-vis jacket and had my lights on so I can't see that I did anything to upset anyone.
I heard a car approaching very quickly behind me but there was a row of parked cars on the opposite side of the road which left about a cars width plus maybe a foot of space in the direction I was going.
There was nowhere for me to go to get out of his way so I stayed about 2 feet away from the kerb and carried on riding as I was only about 100 yards from a junction, he sat a couple of feet behind me the rest of the way up the road. At the junction I turned left and of course so did he and he still couldn't get past as there were parked cars on either side.
When there was a gap for him to squeeze past he pulled level with me, opened his window and screamed something along the lines of "who the f*** do you think you are, f*** off out my way you f***ing p***k"! Unfortunately (or fortunately) I was too shocked to reply so I just stared at him giving him a little shake of the head as he shot off down the road.
I held this idiot up for no more than 30 seconds.
Some people eh!!

Did you notice his resemblance to a very tiny penis?

You did nothing wrong, so don't worry or dwell on it.

Funny how he didn't notice the parked cars littering the street which were the real reason he couldn't pass. The vehicle taking the least amount of room on the street was yours. Scapegoating is all about picking on the little one.

He was ticked off because you are superior and were demonstrating the fact by using a superior means of transport.
You should pity him, the fool.

You get them sometimes. I had my first for quite a while at the weekend. Travelling at about 23-25mph on a nice downhill section towards the end of a good ride, a jerk in a red escort van leaned on the horn as he came past, then slowed down once he was ahead of me.

According to him "you're supposed to be on the side of the road".

Really annoying. I hope his wheels fall off.

As cyclists we have these experiences all the time, I think you've done well to be cycling for 5 months before feeling the wrath of a wronged driver!

Which begs the question, how as a nation do we manage to have qualified drivers who have absolutely no idea about the correct position for a cyclist? To me its absolute madness that we are churning out drivers who have no clue about their responsibility to more vulnerable road users and the correct way to drive around them.
I had a colleague admonish me recently as she'd passed me on the way to work in her opinion I was too far out and had made it difficult for her to pass. When I explained about correct cycling position and the theory and pointed out that "if there isn't enough room you just wait, simples" shesaid "oh yes, I hadn't really though of it like that"!

I remember when I learnt to drive about twenty years ago, the emphasis was all on making progress, not holding up other drivers. It seems things havent changed.

Some right nobs out this morning. Well done for not retaliating, I would have been tempted to tell him where to go.
I would have.
Like I have said before I driven or ridden most forms of transport the only exception being a bus. Yesterday I was behind an artic at a set of lights, he had position to the right of the two lanes so he could swing round the left junction just where he should be, he had waited patiently as we had come up the hill a few hundred yards back, the problem with where he was (not this time as I blocked traffic) was that the amount of space on his left would have been enough temptation for a lot of cyclists to go down his left side, and enough for some car drivers to have tried. So not all drivers are bad, and until you have driven a LGV you cant appreciate the lack of visibility you have, I have also noticed that cars dont have the same visibility as they once had from the drivers seat, so there is much more reliance on the use of mirror's which people dont seem to use as much as they should.
