These are in a GT Traffic 1.0. It came with Landcruiser 40s.

My choice, from my extensive collection of two, are:

Marathon Plus 32s
Conti Gatorskins 28s

Not sure if the 28s fit on these rims, I'd imagine they do. I'm weighing up the quicker Gatorskins against the reliability of the Marathon Plusses.

It'll be for commuting on roads and weekends will take in canal paths.

Duranos as a compromise?

Now that I've got 3 options in the hand, I am not looking in the bush for anymore.

That came out weird.

You won't get punctures with Gatorskins (unless you deliberately ride over nails) and they will hold up well on gravel paths without getting chewed up too quickly.

However my 23 Gatorskins have absolutely no grip on wet roads and over wet leaves/slimey stuff in the Autumn. 28s might be a bit grippier though.

While Gators are far from the best in the wet, I find them acceptable...except when new, then they most certainly are dodgy. Once scrubbed in over a hundred miles or so, they become acceptable IME

I just felt 40c were quite wide for cycling on road? Didn't test them out right enough.

Put the 32c M+ on, more for confidence when commuting than anything else. The Gatorskins felt quite small on a hybrid.

Unless puncture free is your one and only consideration, M+ 32c is both heavy slow, and gives pretty harsh ride. Original Marathon's in 28c flavor is much more balanced.
