I picked up some commuter shorts, one of the cheaper jerseys, a rain jacket that folds up its own backside (which fills me with childlike awe), gloves and a pair of yellow filter glasses.
The gloves are terrific. Did 45 miles in those this afternoon with none of the circulation issues I get from the
Decathlon gloves at twice the price. The shorts are fine though I'm not convinced by the inner shorts, I took them out and used existing kit. The jersey's a jersey. I felt a bit stuffy in it but it was my hottest cycling day of the year so put it down to humidity. The glasses look and feel cheap but did their job and I'm unconcerned by elitists' mockery.
My nearest Aldi is Edgbaston, which is right next to the heaviest-used cycle route in Birmingham so I went to Bearwood instead. It was still a bit of a scrum but nobody got funny. Possibly due to the three cops who were also shopping for a bargain.
