just been to Aldi. Got the thermal underwear and glasses. Total cost: £12.98. Bargain!!
I will try the stuff on when I get home later.By the way, just in case you are wondering, the top and bottom are included in the cost of £8.99. I did ask to make sure as it seems so cheap.

I picked up the last large Merino base layer top in the Oswestry store at around 12.00. Good fit (surprisingly as I normally buy XL tops) but a little on the short side for cycling in my opinion.

Al,
Did they have any (ahem) XL left ?
Curses, I always seem to miss out on the Merino stuff !

Yep, several XLs - and one item fell down the back of the crate out or reach - sods law that will be a large. (Medium is 38-40, Large is 42-44 and XL is 46-48.)

I must have a merino top, even if it doesn't fit.
Mind you, I'm usually pretty good at shrinking things in the washing machine ^_^

I'll call in tonight and see what's left.

I totally forgot lunch time and have just popped in after work. No suprise to see none of the Merino tops were left.

What i did pick up was a pair of thick ski gloves for when its very cold, ski socks (you never know), a neck warmer (buff type thing) and a red and black soft shell jacket. Gonna try and do winter on a budget but i can't make my mind up whether the jacket is the answer to any of it. Ideally i wanted something with a thermal liner but this is only wind/shower proof really. Looks nice and is comfortable but can't decide when i'd wear it or with what and if i'm better off with my hiviz waterproof jacket with more layers underneath...... hmmmmm

You gave me a fright with this - I got my wife to pick up a top for me. What size? she said. Medium I said - as casually as possible.

Then I read this and I just ran up to try it 38!!! I haven't been a 38 since I was about 11. Thankfully it fits fine - they must come up a bit big.

I tested out the merino baselayer (under a long sleeved shirt and windproof jacket) on a 40 mile ride at about 8 degrees C today, have to say that my core temperature remained really toasty despite my reservations about it being a little short for cycling. Got home with frozen feet and tingling fingers but never really felt 'cold.' Will definitely look out for some more merino stuff, might put some on my Xmas list...
