@migrantwing The OP has a SS Tiagra 9sp (eg RD-4400) and its limits are less accommodating. I hope you only needed one more link in the new chain (going from 28 to 30), unless the old chain was in fact too short.

@cyclobud67 Just get a new Tiagra or 105 10sp RD (GS medium cage) both i believe have will do up to 32th.
This is the old 10sp 105RD I suspect the new Tiagra is about the same spec on my triple it copes with 39th range (my largest is 27th rear) but I have a 26th inner on the front giving a low gear inch of about 25"

Just to complicate matters, here's a pic of the derailleur hangers from two otherwise identical Specialized bikes, one with an 11-25 cassette as standard and one with an 11-28 cassette. It doesn't matter because you can tighten that B screw as others have advised but this length difference is worth bearing in mind.

Thank you for the info on these hangers, is there a number on the longer one so I can quote that if sourcing one?

I can't help you there and I bet that even your LBS doesn't know there are different lengths for the same bike. TBH I wouldn't worry too much about it because adjusting the B screw should sort it out.
