SRAM NX 11 speed derailler substitutes

I have a SRAM NX 11 speed derailler which has just broken. Its on a 1x11 speed setup with an 11-42t cassette.

I'm just wondering, are SRAM and Shimano deraillers broadly compatible? And is there much difference between the cheaper and more expensive versions of both? I'm a bit skint at the moment.

I think the SRAM one /might/ be salvageable but I'd rather just replace it for now.

Thanks.

If you go to Deore, you may also need to change the shifter. It's the pull ratio that is likely to be different. Cheaper to replace like for like.

You'll need to look at anything 11 speed SRAM with X-actuation (GX?) unless you change the shifter to Shimano as well as the derailleur. There's no cross compatibility with SRAM & Shimano AFASIK

There is no compatibility between SRAM and Shimano although my understanding is that for 11 speed MTB the cassettes are compatible (definitely the case for road, but not tried MTB).

If you change the derailleur you'll definitely need to replace the shifter as well.
