I did get a bargain last year on some Allen keys.
Went to use them once and realised why. Imperial. FFS.

That sounds like the perfect excuse to buy an American muscle car , chuckle.

Back in the early 70's one of our group of drinking friends went on holiday to America for a couple of weeks. He came back affecting a strong American accent 😁

I can't be too snobbish about that: I pick up English accents very fast, especially if I'm visiting a region I lived in for a while. My wife reckons the record is five seconds.

Apparently I also have an American accent when speaking German. I don't get that either.

I hate to admit it but I bought a set of Allen keys many years ago

they are in a sort of yellow plastic case and fold out - very well designed and well made

it was basically the only set I have used much - so no experience of using any others

I had been wondering for many years why thy never seemed to fit properly - I would try several and use the one that fitted best but it was never perfect -- I just assumed that they were all like that
a few months ago I got them a bit mucky when using them to dismantle the gears on my bike and found the sizes were on the case

in imperial

and those years wondering why they never fitted properly!!!

After working here for a year I discovered I can open the goods lift from the loading bay.

Even worse I had to be shown this by a client who had been here a few months...

I had similar; I was an office temp. working for a large marine propulsion company, I'd been there for a year; walking across the huge open plan office every day, down the stairs, around the entire building and then across the car park to my car. About a week before I left, I was told there was a back door behind where I sat

I have been living in this rental property for over 8 years and I have still not found a switch which will operate 2 wall lights in the lounge! My suspicion is that the lights were never connected. I did find some loose wires in the cellar which looked like they might have come from the lights.

The wiring in the house is very odd, so that does not surprise me. For example - my bedroom does not have a switch in it for its light! I would have to use a switch out on the landing. After a week of accidents walking across the room in the dark, I bought a remote-controlled ceiling light so I can operate the light from the bed. I leave the landing switch on at all times and just use the remote.

I have a light switch in my lounge which doesn't appear to switch anything on or off. Maybe they do the wall lights in your lounge?

I'll flash them 3 times at 19:00 hours this evening - let me know what happens your end....

A lot of Germans have American accents when speaking English.

That's because a lot of schools teach American english and people here often prefer to watch movies in the original language. When learning English at university you have to choose to learn British or US English and will be marked down for using the one you don't choose, if you see what I mean.

As I learned my German here, I have no excuse.
