EU countries can refuse people from the UK entry if they don't have proof of travel insurance on them.

Sadly I've not seen that film.

As things turned out I did have a soldering iron as we were forever having to make up RS232 cables with certain pins connected, for reasons I never quite understood, but it made things work.

That takes me back. Whilst I was a software guy I did tend to have a gas soldering iron in my suit pocket for any site visits. Had to resolder a data cable in a comms room because the pins had been done wrong. It was to do with "lawful interception" and the MI5 guy (or whoever he was, it was never entirely clear) wasn't very impressed !

Note: whilst who is being snooped on is naturally confidential and subject to the official secrets act, the fact of doing it, when presented with a warrant, is in the terms of the telco licence which are a public document, so I'm not giving anything away. I'm sure my cable, my software, and the boxes it once connected are long gone in any case
