Aye Reynard, that's why I prefer Tudor. Aside form being more affordable, the style is truer to their everyman tool watch roots and I like that in my Pelagos and GMT. I'd like a vintage French Navy issue Tudor Submariner but the prices of those have exploded beyond reasonable reach the last couple of years.

Bond has worn an Omega and Seiko, but the first watch Bond was seen wearing on film was a Rolex Submariner, which was the personal property of Cubby Brocolli. Those were the days before NATO straps and its on an ill fitting French navy style single pass nylon strap as its shown on Connery's wrist. Pussy Galore also wore a Submariner.

As you say, its a beautiful watch from the era when Rolex were making very well appointed but simply styled tool watches. They've gone a bit premier league for me these says, a bit too chintzy.

That's just what a hijacker would say! Come on, confess and tell us what you've done with the real Accy!

No, it's definitely me here! I can't find the post you've posted, but it must be about around 18 months old. Let me see. 18 months ago I wore flat caps and thought fedora hats were too 'flashy'. Now, I only wear flat caps to put the recycling out and to let the dog out for a pee. Things change! I still wouldn't wear a blingy Rolex, but the Raymond Veil watch I bought the other week could be classed as quite blingy. 🤔 Having said that about blingy Rolex's, if someone said to me "this is yours to wear! It now belongs to you, but you aren't allowed to sell it"!! I wouldn't be sticking it in a drawer! :okay: I'd definitely wear it...But not round Accrington!!:stop:

There's a very nice-looking and similar vintage stainless steel Tudor Oyster Princess for sale on the 'bay. That's much more my style as I tend to gravitate more towards sport & dress watches, but it's been there for a fair while, so either it's too spendy or there's something amiss with it. I don't know enough about them to work out which it is.

Have to confess I prefer the Bond books to the films, I'm like that, books are my "thing"

I'm on the hunt for a nice vintage (late 60s / early 70s) Longines or Zenith.

Owwwww, my eyes!!!

Likewise me. It's classically elegant with the baton indices, sunburst dial and plain bezel.

The newer one is just too busy.

I'm still thinking about it. As you say it's a lot to spend on a watch that might be not quite right. At least there's a 14 days return policy. I do prefer it to the newer one, mainly due to it not having those Roman numerals and the crown on the dial is more prominent on the 1960 one.

Taking aesthetics out of the equation @Accy cyclist , the first Air King you posted is a 5500 reference and uses a 1520 or 1530 movement, depending on year of production. The second Air King is a 14010 reference and uses the more modern calibre 3000 movement and has a saphire crystal as opposed to the acrylic crystal on the 5500.

Be aware that the case size on both these models is 34mm.

So which one is the best, or doesn't it matter? 🤔 The top/oldest one was made in 1960 by the way. As for the case size, my goldsmith/watch repairer friend told me about the smaller size, saying it's very 1950's, early 1960's.
