I did the same thing... bought a coffee grinder. After spending half an hour (at least) trying to grind enough beans for a single cup, I decided the sodding thing was next to useless and stuck my cordless drill on the little knurled nut to finish the job off. The hand grinder went back to the shop the next day and I'm currently looking for a better one.Not exactly a random photograph, but there is a story to it. My sister fed me on Monday, after food and drink the chat kept on about all sorts of stuff, as you would expect. Sister related a shopping trip, she had called in to Betty’s in Harrogate to buy freshly ground coffee, ‘I don’t want to have a plastic bag, please put it in a paper one,’ said she. And of course at every other shop she visited someone commented on the smell of coffee.
So, on my way home, I too called into Betty’s. Then caught the bus to Leeds. I should have thought a bit more, shouldn’t I?
Anyway, after the thought too late, it occurred to me that if I bought a coffee grinder, a small one, I could grind one cup worth of beans as and when needed. And avoid all the endless ‘can you smell coffee?’ questions. So I did just that.

Yup, the pic was taken before I tried the grinder. Which will be replaced with an electric mill. I do have a couple of spice chopping things which have been tried for coffee grinding purposes before. Not a total success, so will be looking for something better. Or give up with grinding the beans . . .I did the same thing... bought a coffee grinder.
