I looked up Eliza Fraser on Wikipedia. She was shipwrecked on 22 May 1836. Her husband died, but she later made her way to Hook Point. Her claim to have been 'captured' or 'enslaved' by the Butchulla People is controversial; other people from the same shipwreck disputed it, and the Butchulla were known for being hospitable. Worse, The Butchulla were subsequently massacred and displaced, partly because of her account. Apparently the plaque has annoyed some Australian tourists.
Fraser later caused more controversy by asking the Mayor of London to start a charity to support her three children, on the basis she was a destitute widow. In fact, she had remarried another ship's captain in Australia some time earlier, and while in Australia a charity in Sydney had given her 400 pounds.
