It's another rant (it must be the change in the weather). I am Never Never going in a bike shop again. (except I'll probably have to..) Short story (hah hah not my speciality), having a problem with saddle: nose too low..slip off, nose higher then abrasion becomes a severe problem..ladies will know what I'm talking about when I say it would be cheaper to have shares in Cysteine and Glaxo Smith Kline. Decided that maybe a 27 year old saddle designed for pootling is reaching its limit on 80-100 miles a week so take up courage and go into cycle shop. "I think I need a new saddle and I came in about five weeks ago and you were waiting for stock in a couple of weeks" "Well, Specialised, we've only got one. £40" Hands it to me and waits expectantly. Don't know what I am supposed to say, perhaps Hey that's my favourite colour I'll take it. Say hesitantly "I guess I'd better take it. He goes to ring it up. I say "could you possibly put it on for me" "Oh. OK" he says. He puts it on and hands me the bike. Oh God I think this is not going to work, well at least there is possibly a resale value unlike the useless slightly stained undershorts in the wrong size I ended up with last time, "Can I check the height" I say, "hmm a bit low" "Really? "well look my knees are quite bent even with my instep on the pedal" "OK, I'll put it up." I'm thinking I was really hoping for a bit of help with the fore and aft, angle etc. Ride it home: it's like sitting on two marbles and I keep sliding off. (plus point: people probably think that knackered looking woman must be quite fit really, she's not even bothering to sit down)... Now, I still have to sort out the positioning and I don't know if it' s just the set up or if it's wrong size or wrong for me, and I'm thinking why didn't I just order one off the internet, at least then I could have send it back if I couldn't get it to work.....
Silly of me to expect that I would having a working saddle...I need it for 24miles on Wednesday... think I'll have to put the old one back on...now can I remember how that was set up......

If cycling has one downside it is saddles, unfortunately there is no one saddle that suits all bums. People swear by brooks, I found them too wide when i tried one. I am quite lucky in that my road bike saddles have been OK for me, however I never really ride much over 45 miles in one go regularly enough for it to become too much of a problem. I find that the ones with the springiness of a car's dashboard actually suit me better.

3 bikes and 5 saddles and still not one that feels just right for me.
I daren't buy one unless its just wrong and wasted my dosh.
There is a saddle library on here but you need 200 posts+ to borrow one to try.
unfortunately you'll really need to get those fingers working!

It's under bikes, kit and accessories etc.

I'd still give the old Brooks a try. Go somewhere you can have a look at a few models {inc the ladies] and see if anything seems remotely right. Give it a while to "adapt" to you. If all else fails you can always sell a good used Brooks for more or less what you paid for it.

Its tricky sidevalve if you're a lady cos they only ever seem to have one of anything. at least I found one with sizes, assuming that I've got the right size..

I would have thought a few of the girls on here would have steered you in the right direction, my wife went trough a few before she found a couple of comfortable ones, she really likes the specialized one that came with her myka mtb,
