I have a new job that will mean cycling down some country lanes so I need a light that I can see with (currently have be seen lights). I was thinking that I might be able to get a good deal on a light now that the days are long.

I apologise in advance for asking a question that has been asked before but some of the threads on this are very long winded and finding out the specifics isn't easy.

Thoughts:
- Don't want to break the bank. £50 ish seems reasonable
- I have 3 bikes which all are used to commute at some point or another so I would like something that is easy to swap from bike to bike in an instant. So, ideally something that you can buy extra mounts & something that the power is easy to swap about too. I suspect (but can't be certain) that I will be able to charge batteries at work.

The Knog Blinder is usb rechargeable easily clips to bars without attachments and is pretty bright for a 'be seen' if you go for the 4 LED one.
£30 ish?

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Obvious choice for a cheap to see light would be the xml t6 lights if you do not mind a separate battery pack as you can easily transfer them between bikes .
For just over £50 you can get a moon power 300 which according to bikeradar is powerful enough for country lanes and is usb rechargeable.
Or how about a torch based unit with a p7/ xml emitter that you could buy extra mounts fairly cheaply for ?

I have recently taken the plunge on one of these here

I am very pleased with it for the money and have now undertaken three rides with it on unlit country roads without any problems.

I am so happy with it, I have just ordered another, as much to have a spare battery as anything, but £12 for a battery or £17 for a light, batter and charger...

Mr Andrew_Culture will be able to vouch for how rubbish his own light is and how much better mine was. It was so much better that I got the KoM and he didn't

Also on returning to my road last night I found that cars waited behind other parked cars, rather than deciding it's only a bike and making progress through the narrower gaps.

Recommended.

I can definately concur with Mattobrien's comments. I am well pleased with mine (same lamp from same seller).

I've got the Moon XP500 which I got during a sale for about £65ish I think. I can highly recommend it but unfortunately it's out of your price range as think the lowest is currently £75 but if you can get one off ebay or something it would be a good purchase. It's USB rechargeable so I do it at work during the day to ensure I can use the high power mode every ride.

All true! I feel horribly let down by my £9.99 Aldi CREE light, and by my legs.

Matt's light was so bright I honestly thought I had a car behind us a lot of the time.

@mattobrien - that looks like a real gift ! - way cheaper than what I've seen before .
Edit: Oh, hang on - might be something different

Now I have a problem:
  • I don't really need it yet
  • I  it
AAArrrrgh !
My main issue with any light is that I am using a 'bent and the mount is on a post at the front of the bike BUT it is angled slightly backwards, so I need to be able to rotate the light down onto the road.
It's the equivalent of rotating a handlebar light about 20* to the left.
Anyone know of a fitting with which I can do this ?

Magicshine or similar generic copy You can see with it and have time to react to potholes on pitch black country lanes at 30mph. Battery pack lasts for 2 to 3 hours and velcros on and off. The light itself is held on with a large o ring so quick switching from bike to bike.

You can borrow mine if you want to try before you buy, although mine is the version from three years ago and they are now even brighter.
