be pedantic but not being in common use is incorrect.
When I looked at the original post I assumed it was not Scotland since the common name was not
used.

Windermere gets called a lake I seem to remember even if it has mere in the name.
No idea if I have my very old Swallows and Amazons but interesting to look back.
Just as well I don’t take it all seriously but you are right about the Victorians I think.
