Pro 11 Evo certainly are. You can get QR, 9mm thru axle(I run a 9mm thru-axle QR on mine on standard QR dropouts) , 15mm and 20mm converters for the front, and for the rear you can get a standard QR, 10mm thru-axle QR and a bolt thru that needs a a different converter. They are literally end caps that pop out and refit to fit the different axle shape. The rear bolt thru needs a more expensive converter kit.
My Ritchey hubs, which are DT Swiss clones really, have removable end caps and I'm told, if one can find the parts, one can convert similarly.

Am I right in thinking a 9mm thru axle QR is a solid axle with 9mm QR which replaces the hollow axle and QR?

Yes. The claim is that you get more torsional stiffness. Some say it's not necessarily true as stiffness depends on the mating point on the fork/dropout. DT Swiss started it all, but at a price!

I have a feeling it would be best to fit bolt through axles with washers that transfer more grip to the dropout.

I bought one of these anyway as I liked the colour..............^_^
