Is it a recognised courier with tracking and confirmation of pickup? Any way he can deny it was picked up by “his courier”?

When / if a courier turns up I will ensure the bike getting loaded onto the van / vehicle is recorded included the reg number of the vehicle. I will also ask the driver to receipt a pickup slip I will print. The bike is advertised Collection only. So this ( imo) is now the buyers responsibility to organise reliable collection.

I would make sure any courier collection is one that is traceable with proof of delivery.
unfortunately, the scams have us all a bit jittery with eBay these days.

Yes, as is apparent, I am jittery. If I hear nothing tomorrow I will even contact Royal Mail to ensure no attempts at redirection of my mail. The buyer has my full postal address. Now tell me I'm paranoid. 🙄

As long as you have the courier details from him, and get the courier to confirm collection you should be OK.

I've had a bike be collected like that; the courier turned up with a giant van and loaded items in there unwrapped.

And take photos too !

... If he was employing a courier to come here from Hertfordshire it wouldn't make sense.

that's not how couriers work unless it's a local 'man person with a van'... if it's national service (DPD, Hermes, etc.) it gets collected, goes to a local depot, get picked up by another member of the firm and taken to a more central depot, then gets delivered to wherever it's going.

Total scam.

When the buyer pays, they receive a qr code from ebay.
The seller MUST scan that code at handover of goods, it is the in only proof of the meeting/exchange.

Without that proof the buyer can claim the exchange never happened and get the payment reversed. Nasty.

I think it may be collected and then he says that hes never got it and you will have to refund him.
Ebay sides with the buyer 100% of the time not the seller, remember that.

Well, if that's the case it will not be successful. You say " you will have to refund him " The only way I will refund the buyer or ebay is if someone takes me to court and I am instructed to pay up.

Are you sure about this ? so the buyer must provide me with this QR code and I have to scan it. Seems pretty unlikely to me.

Whenever you sell and it is collection only, the buyer gets a unique code to give to you (the seller) on collecting the goods. This is the 'handshake', and following it prevents any buyer from claiming they didn't collect the goods. Of course if the buyer is paying cash on collection it doesn't matter.

No, how it works is that they will just take the money out of your account, you dont get any say in it. You agreed to this when you signed up for Ebay its in the terms and conditions. All a buyer has to say is they didnt get any item and the seller has to pay. Then the seller has to claim back from the postage company not the buyer.
All this is all over the internet, thats why they advise not to sell items you cant afford to loose on Ebay. For more expensive items it should be cash in hand only. Sellers have no protection on Ebay.

Well, as I explained earlier, my bank account registered with ebay only has a nominal amount in it. I move money into this account as needed. At the moment there is less than £40,00 in this account.

Well, if he is a scammer ? and bearing in mindI have £445.00 of his money, this should make him sweat.
I have just sent this via ebay messages:

Further to my earlier message ebay say :-

A new eBay local pickup QR Code be given to the buyer (along with a six digit code) which they will present to the seller when they come to collect the item.

Please ensure your collection agent has these necessary codes before I release the bike.
