I try and avoid the place anyway. It's about 30 miles away and I've only been there twice! Traffic is a bloody nightmare (plus Bath is both nearer and nicer!).

Bath is just a ponce-ridden Georgian housing estate. ;)

And Bristol is cut off from the outside world: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7183696.stm

Still, it will take me longer than usual to get home - I need to put my waterproof trousers on.

I went up onto the Costwold hills around Cheltenham on friday evening in my shogun not knowing or expecting anything more than it being very wet. As we ascended, the traffic was backed up for miles on the escarpment with the snow as the 2wd cars and HGVs didn't have any traction for their descent from Cirencester, and the previous rain had washed away the grit.
It was total chaos up there. Even the soft-roaders were getting stuck as they were all running on regular tyres with a road tread patterns (why bother ??)

Its ok saying why bother with 4wd for something which only happens a few days a year - Tell that to the poor sods who were stranded at the top of a hill with small kids in a blizzard overnight because their vehicles weren't suited to the conditions.

The only ones which were making progress were the 'proper' 4x4s ;)

Got summat to ask, while you're here. I wanna go have a look at a Charge Mixer bicycle and have found out that Dave Bater Cycles are a Charge dealer. Is this shop easy to find and to drive to/park near? (they're in Park Street, I fink)

Easy to find Park Street - right near by the waterfront- the cycle shop is opposite the council house at the bottom of Park Street. I don't ever try parking around there - I would of thought it might not be easy - I think its a choice between parking meters or NCP car park.

One of the few city roads in the country where this is a literal description I should think. I (vaguely) remember many drunken ascents of Park Street fuelled by chips and mayo from the little kiosk near the Hippodrome to get back to my student accommodation on Pembroke Road

A word of warning- Dave Bater have been worse than useless in my experience. A friend booked a bike in for a service and they then claimed they have no record of it and they're too busy. They had our work Brompton for about 6 weeks, claiming they couldn't get the spares for it, even though I had told them twice that they were available from SJS cycles.

Rubbish.

I was only going to try it for size and then order one from wiggle!

Normally I'd tell you off for shafting the LBS, but in this case they don't deserve any better! Mind you, they may improve as they've recently been taken over by Zero G, who already own Garland's - a much much better bike shop.
