It's a Peugeot 206 cc 2 litre petrol.
It's quiet a nippy little car

Tbf, if you watch any of the YouTube mechanics such as Rainman Ray etc (yeah I know they're American but principle is the same) they will occasionally have to put a repair on the side while waiting for blah blah.
Annoying, yes I agree tbf.

Well I'm not to pleased to be honest.
After nearly a week of being without my car and struggling to get to and from work i eagerly went to collect my car today and was shocked by the bill.
£552 to change a cam belt, tensioner, water pump and the thermostat.
The cam belt and all it's parts came to a whopping £192 and the labour was £360 (5 hours labour @ £60 an hour.(£300 +vat)
I must be living in the dark ages or something because I was thinking it was going to be around the 350 to 375 mark.
Now please tell me if I'm wrong,,but I think this price is well over the top.
I did make a bit of a song and dance over it to them but it fell on deaf ears, and I'm sure they wouldn't of given me the keys back unless I payed up.
As I was desperate to get my car back I paid up and left in a foul mood.
On the plus side it's now running at its correct temperature again of 90 degrees instead of 70 due to a stuck thermostat, and the car has now lost the slight belt whine it was emitting.
If I wasn't so heavily dependent on my car for work I would of really dug my feet in over this.
After taking stock of everything tonight I think the reason why they've been thick on the bill is because they've lost trade this gone week because my car has been stuck in there garage taking valuable work space up preventing them from working on other vehicles, plus from what I can gather they've had to fork out £100 on a cam locking tool.
Yes they could of bought a cheap Mickey Mouse tool but they've no doubt bought an expensive branded one because there a commercial business.
I'm feeling they've tried to recover some of their losses by billing me for it.
In the past this particular garage have always been good value and is regarded locally as a good with high quality work.
If you think I'm wrong and barking up the wrong tree please tell me.

All the very best,
Johnny.

Not. had such a job done on Petrol. Engine, but, on 2.3litre Euro6 Diesel Fiat/Peugot that is not a bad price, indeed a bit low, to replace Cam-belt, tensioner and water pump.

Price doesn't seem unreasonable. £60 an hour is late 90's labour rates at a main dealer so to be charged that a quarter century later isn't bad going.

You could always do it yourself next time, whereupon you'll discover first hand what that money is actually buying you.

Some people are living in the past with motor trade prices Drago, garage overheads are stupidly expensive as you know. I am guessing most main dealers are close on £150+vat and hour now. Over £200 in some down south now I would imagine.

Well ,I've just been doing a little research on getting quotes online and I'm somewhat shocked.
I've been getting quotes ranging from £450 to £750 and that's not even including replacement of the thermostat.
The book time also ranges 5/6 hours.
Looking at these prices I starting to think my bill was actually about right.
Blimey I need to get with the times and except things are not the cost as they were 20 year's ago 😲

Yes it was cheap! Its a long job. Garage that did mine said they went a couple of hours over book as it awkward to do, but only charged me book rates. And Thier labour was £90 an hour I think.
