Hi

I'm interested in buying a new hybrid bike that has internal hub gears (eg Alfine), has stays to fit a rear pannier rack, and has flat handle-bars. I'll be buying on my work bike scheme, so looking to spend over £500.

I've really struggling to find anything that fits the bill. Any pointers would be most welcome.

thanks

If it's with flat bars, there's the On-One bike...

Welcome to the forum btw

Trek Soho with Nexus hub gears. It comes with mudguards, belt drive and mounts for lowriders. The DLX version (@ £1000) comes fully-equipped with a rack, disc brakes and a drinks flask)
It looks like the perfect low-maintenance, bullet-proof commuter to me. Around £700 for the less well-equipped model will roller brakes.

To be fair, I thought they looked a bit...ermm...."bright" but when you've seen one in the flesh the colour looks pretty good. If only they made it in black.....

It looks great in orange, if Tonka made bikes this would be it!

Have a look at Evans Cycles. I just spotted their Cannondale Bad Boy 3 2010 today and it is the hottest hybrid I have ever seen. It's matt black with discs, 3 speed Sram rear hub and a spooky rigid lefty fork.

I already have a Hybrid but now I want the Bad Boy 3 (fitting a front mudguard could be tricky though?)

carrera bargain. might be tempted to buy one and strip it of the hubs/wheels to get my pompetamine project kick started. rebuild it as an ss with spare disc wheels I've already got and sell it on.

I feel a plan coming on, may wander down to my local halfords over the weekend

EDIT: I think the spell checker got the better of the web content editor on the specification page

Full front and rear pannier mounts on frame and forks to allow openers to be fitted for easy transportation of luggage

Interesting, I didn't think to suggest the Carrera Subway 8. I have owned for nearly a year now, except that mine has a Nexus 8 hub and roller brakes. It's certainly a much better prospect now that it has an Alfine hub and disc brakes. I'd still rather have a Pompetamine or a Day 01 though
