A narrower rim has enough material in it to make sure that it is safe for the forces it is subjected to. If you go and make a larger hole in that rim, it may/may not effect durability. I seriously doubt it will make a lot of difference, but I always err on the side of caution, as I'm a big guy. Also, I think narrower rims are made for presta tubes, which tend to run thinner. I like 700x23, all the way up to 700x28, but I run even 700x28s on a wider rim than that. Narrower valve-narrower rim, wider valve-wider rim. If I'm going for speed, I'm usually on 700x23s or 700x25s, with presta valves. If I'm touring, or have a load, or I'm worried about the state of roads, then I'm on 700x28s, which have rims for schraeder valves. I suppose it would depend on the state of the roads in Loovul, as well.

That's not good on the LBS's part, especially when they kept on supplying you with numerous numbers of tubes and not saying about drilling the rim, I myself would be asking them to supply you with a replacement rim that is the CORRECT one and pay for some reputable wheel builder to sort it and some decent inner tubes, I think if you confront them with all of that you may at least get some part in recompense....:cuppa:
