Well done!

If you have lost 56LB overall and taken up cycling, you probably have added a good half a stone in muscle so your fat loss will be a fair bit more.

I thought this as well. I lost weight intially, then levelled out as I put muscle on and then started to lose it again as my legs got as big as they're going to at this level of exertion.
Now the waistline is back to where it was 20 years ago and the weight is falling nicely. Best of all, I feel bloody great!

Excellent stuff Banjo - and, in my opinion, you brag away. Losing that amount of weight takes a lot of doing so thank you for sharing that with us.

I managed to put the weight I lost when the snow arrived! But, I'm back in the saddle so am hoping it's a temporary blip!

When I was a student I used to work holidays at a plant hire company in the stores. I remember a bloke there in his fifties who used to unbuckle his belt and unwrap about a foot of trouser from his waist then hold the trouser waistband out to show how much weight he'd lost since starting the physical work in the stores, after a lifetime of sedentary accountancy. He was so proud that he wore the trousers every day to remind himself!

I'm only trying to lose 46 pounds (from where I was at Christmas 2008) and I wanted a visual representation of that so I set up an OJ-ometer to monitor my progress! Your 56 pounds would have been this...

...plus another 4 cartons of OJ - well done!

Very well done, I'm on my own journey to slimness using the bike. The hybrid with pannier option for everyday any opportunity riding is the lifestyle change I've gone for. I "pop" out on the bike to get anything, newspapers, groceries even doing 2 or 3 trips to avoid using the car.

I've lost just over a stone and have 2.5 more to go on this phase of programme, the first pahse was from 18+ down to 15, this one from 15 down to 13 and the next one I'll need to see how I feel in a couple of months.

Well done Banjo and everyone else who has made the lifestyle change.

Fantastic Banjo.
I've managed to lose a stone over six moths but your story encourages everyone .

Well done.
I shall try to move more this year!!

Well done mate, total respect.

I started around May myself and have lost 2 stone. Hoping to lose another two stone by at least the end of the year.

I'm not a very serious cyclist really, I have barely done over 25 miles and keep my rides around 15miles max.

I'm more of a cycling commuter really who likes to do the odd big ride. The lowest my weight has gone is 12 stone 8 pounds but it's back up to around 13 stone now.

I've been on abit of a break from cycling but now that the weather is likely to get abit better, and the nights shorter, it's time to hit the road again and get some big rides in. :-)

Like wise I have managed to lose 3 stone since July last year. Even though I did not lose the weight through cycling, it has given me the energy to buy myself a used Tifosi road bike and even a bit of Lycra.

I try to get out at least once a week and hope to start to commute to work in the spring.

I have even managed to get my children on there bikes and they managed 18 miles today.

Well done Banjo. I'm similar but not quite as much, peaked at 94Kg and have recently weighed in at 74Kg. I'm well chuffed. My major reason for doing it was attempting an Ironman in July this year, so I'm anticipating a couple more kg loss with all the training but am very happy at my current weight.

I travel a lot and like to visualise my weightloss as the 20kg suitcase that I lug around the airports. As you say, amazing that your body could cope with it step after step. Imagine how much stress relief that must be on all the joints later in life.

I haven't been this weight since I was at least 17, probably younger!!!

I try and avoid fatty food but for a different reason - I.e. oily skin leading to acne.....

I've found that taking a bowl, half filling it with a mixture of soya protein, cous-cous, salt, spices, herbs, garlic and pepper, and then poring boiling water on top of this, makes for a very very tasty snack, and because it's 25% protein, it really fills you up. According to the nutritional info on the sides of the various packets, this meal has "trace or <.1 grams" of fat in any form in it.

Of course if you really want some flavour, add a stock cube or somthing, but i'm happy with soya sauce instead.
