Last weekend was the
9 Counties 600 audax and, as I've a painful back, I needed to take it a bit steadier. The
620km ride was completed but slower than normal as I needed to rest my back quite frequently. On a positive note that meant an opportunity for more café stops
rather than rushing round and only stopping for a snack/sandwich/drink from a Co-Op or similar.
Apologies for the degradation in photo quality - I'm guessing it reflects how tired I was getting.
Café 27:
Stray's Coffee , Oakham
This was
supposed to be a control point, but got changed between route instructions and the start. However, I'd planned to stop so did. Really friendly, with bike storage inside.
Coffee and cake for £6.15
Café 28:
The Old Copper Kettle, Crowland.
Quick stop in a friendly but quirky café with beans on toast plus coffee for £6.75
Obligatory ride photo:
And onto Sunday ... (McDonald's at Glews Services in Goole for breakfast)
Café29:
The Singing Kettle Cafe, Barton-on-Humber
The only place open at 9.30am on a Sunday although I was planning to stop at
The Ropewalk, however that only opened at 10am. Coffee and a lovely big brownie for £4.50
Café 30: , Gainsborough
At this point I was a bit tired and got the planned stops mixed up. The aim was
Reeds Coffee Shop however that was 300m further up the road and I
thought I'd planned to stop at Spokes Coffee Shop, which was shut.
Opened on Saturday this is an off-shoot of the
bar next door and they had a limited menu due to just opening, so no sandwiches. Instead a massive waffle with ice cream plus a coffee for £10.15 was lovely.
