I have also lost 5 stone, though over the last year. I have found the MyFitnessPal app very useful. It allows you to see exactly how many calories you are eating and identify areas where you can cut calories. For instance, it showed me that I was drinking way too much coffee. With all the milk it was a couple of hundred calories a day. I've now cut this to two cups of black coffee during the day. It showed me bread was really calorific and I've nearly cut it out entirely. It has helped me slowly put together a diet where I feel full as I'm eating loads but every calorie counts. I never really ate that badly it was more a case of very poor portion control. The app will help you know what a portion actually looks like. It's a bit of pain weighing stuff at the start but you get to know fairly quickly roughly what it looks like so I just judge by eye now.
I have found eating porridge in the morning helps me feel fuller longer into the day. If you're looking something to snack on then try fat-free greek yogurt. There's not many calories in it and it's full of protein. If it tastes a little too sharp try mixing through some honey, or anything else that takes your fancy.
My body shape has also been really helped by circuit classes. Some high intensity workouts maybe once a week will be very beneficial. It'll stop you getting bored cycling at least.
I also leave room for a take away once a week. I usually have a cheat day with a take away and maybe ice cream or chocolate, you'd go mad trying to stick to it non-stop.
The best advice is to view this as a lifestyle change. If you view it as a diet, something you stop when you lose a certain amount of weight, then you'll put all the weight back on when you go back to eating 'normally'. Slowly change what you eat and how you live until you find the right balance that works for you.

I drink coffee all day long, but never have milk or sugar, or water.
Weight loss is really easy, use more energy than you eat, if you are not putting on any weight at the moment using an extra 3500 calories results in 1lb of body fat loss, it gets more complex, and figures are rough, so at that rate you would lose 52lb a year or 3st 10lb and 3,500 calories extra isn't a lot really.
I haven't changed my eating much, just eat more really, but only because I am hungry not to feel full, if you feel full you have eaten to much.

It's 500 calories a day. If you are maintaining a weight and can cycle to work everyday over a route that will burn 500 calories (maybe 8 -10 miles?) with a longer ride over weekend that should mean you'll drop a pound a week.

If you're gaining weight then you'll need to look at diet too. It might just take a few tweaks to see you right. That's where some sort of diet app pays dividends.

Or about 11hrs, depends on how you cycle though, slow easier cycling is better for weight loss, you want it in miles as well, about 74 miles a week, not much really, there haven't been many weeks I have done less since I started last June, what ever the weather, the only ones have been when I took some time off, which is also needed to help your body recover.
For the record it's 1 week in 5 I dont cycle over 70-75 miles a week, though to be fair I do have the time to do it, I have done two evening rides this week total mileage just under 70miles time 4hrs 14min, first time I did 73 miles in a week it took me three rides and 6hrs and 45 mins, and probably stopped several times on the rides. These days I only need to stop over 30 miles then usually because I want a cig.
The biggest problem I have is getting out of the door, even now.

Wow what nice people in here.

I have found my new favourite snack low fat hummus and carrot sticks. Here is the recepie I have been using to make it
http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/1405/easy-low-fat-houmous.aspx
Its perfect for salads so its brought loads of life back into my diet as I was getting board of extra light mayo.
I even tried it with tuna today in a wrap for my lunch and it was awesome.

As for what diet I am doing its just salad and meat with new pots or fruits. I am not limiting things per say I am just not eating things that are bad for me.
Here is what I have eaten today.
Breakfast
1 apple and 2 satsumas
lunch
tuna hummus oakleaf cuecumber wraps (2 small)
Tonight
Chicken in tomato, garlic and paprika sauce with a side dish of Romanesco , cauliflower, carrots and green beans.
I forgot to get potatoes when shopping today however I didn't miss them at all.

For some reason I cant get on my app store but Ill try later when I plug my phone in.

Thanks everyone.

Congratulations on your awesome success.

Personally I would need a bit more for breakfast to keep me fuelled through the morning, especially if cycling.

Porridge with skimmed milk works for me but everyones different.

Good Luck:thumbsup:

Well done on the weight loss Cupra! Very well done.

I lost 2 stone very quickly last year through a digestive problem - I am now gluten and dairy free but had to go completely fat free last year, so the weight just fell off me. I managed to get through a London to Paris bike ride by living on rice and sugar. I wouldn't advise it as a life style choice, the sugar highs were great but the lows were awful. It was hard to keep moving so I now how you're feeling.

You could add some honey into your porridge - I don't like honey but it doesn't take much so you hardly notice it when it's added to something else. Or you could make the porridge with half milk, half water and add some sugar. A little in your diet is OK, particularly if you're going to exercise.

If you like nuts, but don't want the fat content, you can put chick peas on a tray in the oven, without oil, and roast them. Low fat and filling.

Good luck with the next stage.
