My old local pub which is now a nursery, was granted a day long opening extension,so we had a bit of a party outside. I can still remember those baggy trousers, and white shoes  i was wearing, and my old mate's souped up Ford Anglia in front of the pub.

Cycled out onto Dartmoor to avoid the whole thing.

No idea whatsoever. Having been a staunch anti-monarchist for two decades by that time, I'm sure I would have spent the day actively doing something unrelated, sneering every 20 minutes or so for effect (whether or not anyone else was there to witness).

I don't remember what I was doing but this thread reminded me of something...

I was listening to '1913: The Year before the Storm' by Florian Illies on R4 Book of the Week. A fascinating listen and a book I'd probably read should I ever see it. It's like a collage, of collection of events that were occurring in the lead up to the first world war; the theft of the Mona Lisa, the Vienna scene, the activities of Kafka, James Joyce, Marcel Duchamp. Most stories are linear, A to B through time yet this went side to side as well - events that occurred at the same time.

You get these questions periodically - what we're you doing when they landed on the moon? when JFK was shot? when the twin towers were hit? This takes the approach of answering that question. And in doing so presents quite an eerie picture, because of course we know what's about to happen.

I can remember distinctly what I was doing that day.

I was travelling back from business in Switzerland. Airspace over London was in chaos. Arriving four hours late in London, I found most of the population was off its collective head. Train went passed my stop and with a few other victims was obliged to get a taxi home dragging a week's packing in a suitcase. I did not recover for several days.

I bet you still kick yourself over that decision don't you?

As for me, I was 9 so would probably have been at school, unless we got the day off, in which case I'd have been out on my bike somewhere or other, I can't remember TBH.

not at all it wasnt even a real one , it was just a std mk1 made to look like a Mexico

I was in Phoenix Arizona with my then in-laws. People got up at some unearthly hour to watch it on telly.
