Two 13.5 miles is a 27 mile round trip. simples.;)
i agree but feel there may be an exception. if you use endomondo as i do and i paused it for an hour or so chilling and eating and then resumed. presume the ride was 45minutes long, i have a fresh 15 minutes to beat my best 1 hour distance record, therefore it wouldnt be fair or accurate as such. so as long as it isnt for records i would say its one ride unless you shower or sleep inbetween or if more than 7/8 hours have elapsed

I cycle 12 miles to work. 9 hours later ride the 12 miles home.

I count this as 24 miles.

id count it as 30 miles to be on the safe side

I go for a regular ride to my inlaws, its 13.8ish miles the route i take (could be shorter but this is a nice run)

i have something to eat and an hour later i ride back. is this a 27mile ish run or 2 x 13.5ish runs? do i clear endomondo or pause it?

Not what you are asking but....The training effect of 27 miles in one piece, is greater than the training effect of two pieces each of 13.5 (assuming same effort/pace)

yes i agree. You couldnt do 2 30 minute rides and use it as your best 1 hour distance challenge

lol, ok it doesn't really matter.

However I can't resist! It's two 13.5 miles rides in my book, but the honest answer to the below questions are:

Q. How far did you ride today?
A. 27 miles.

Q. What's the longest you've ever ridden in one go?
A. 13.5 miles.
(presuming this to be true)

I'd say that there's a difference to a road side stop, and actually reaching your destination, getting off the bike and having a Sunday meal. Truth is though, there's no rules, no regs to guide us here, everyone is free to give there own interpretation, as are you, and so everyone is both right and wrong.

To solve the problem and end the discussion, I propose the OP should go out today and do the same route, without stopping for his meal!

Would the answer to the second question be 13.5m if you'd had to stop at a traffic light?

Surely if you have a break big enough for you to recover then it's 2 rides. But it depends on if you're trying to measure your endurance or not? I bet you'd find it harder on the way back if you were to ride there and turn around right away, than having a few hours break.

I'd count it as one ride, but your average speed would have to include the hour for lunch - audax style!
