27 miles or 2 x 13.5?

Look. If you were driving Aberdeen to London and stopped a few times at services would you say you had driven 3 x Y or just give the distance you had covered? Surely it depends on your final destination. Don't sweat about it!

By an amazing coincidence one of my commutes is 13.5 miles (i work in different places on different days). But it's not a normal commute as I only work there for 1.5 hours and then set off back home. So do I call it a 13.5 mile each way commute or a 27 mile ride with a break in the middle? My lungs think it's a 13.5 mile EW commute but my legs think it's a 27 mile ride. I don't want to hear that it doesn't matter as it's clearly crucial

Surely its 27 miles, as thats the milage attained from leaving home to arriving back home regardless whether done in one stint or not

Mmm. But a 13.5 mile cycle into work at 7.30am followed by the return leg at 5.30pm isn't a 27 mile bike ride is it? So how long is the non cycling gap allowed to be?

If you get changed, have a shower, sleep in a bed then its two rides.

For the purposes of calculating a meaningful average speed etc then i would have to say it counts as 2 x 13.5 journeys.
For the purposes of how far is your overall journey then 27 miles.

Stan:"How far did you cycle today?"
Bob:"13.5 miles and then another 13.5 miles"
Stan:"So, 27 miles, then?"
Bob:"No. 13.5 miles and then another 13.5 miles"
Stan:"Bob!"
Bob:"Ok, 27 miles"
