Is this the most sensible bike released by a major manufacturer in a while?

Integrated lights, Threaded Bottom Bracket, Mudguard mounts.

This ticks so many boxes for me it's surprising. I'd buy one, but my Kinesis already has all this.
What's that green colour scheme ? Looks terrible.

read the write up about this bike and thought It is far too expensive for me and why have built in lights? ok I suppose if you are a continual night owl cyclist but surely it only takes a moment to attach some and the bike itself is far far above my needs.

Tiagra - is the new Ultegra, didn't ya know?!
A comment on the GCN video pointed out that someone speccing Dura Ace on a 10kg bike probably isn't the best use of £9000.

Interestingly the frame is meant to weigh the same as the previous Synapse frame, so where the extra 2kg has come from I have no idea. Dem some heavy-ass lights!

As a lycra wearing boring Guardian reading grandparent, who could afford both the bike and the buggy, who rides a beautiful grey machine, I'm wondering which group is next for pigeonholing? Don't you just love stereotyping, it adds so much to a point of view.

I'm not gullible though. I equate Synapse with being quality value for money bikes which I've often considered buying. In the £1000-1500 range these are great machines. At £2400 in my view this model is seriously over priced.

After the initial shock, I looked at how much the 2021 models cost.

2021 cannondale synapse cost £2500 and had
- carbon frame
- shimano 105 groupset (although not even full 105, the crankset is cannondale own one)
- press fit bottom bracket

The 2022 model that costs £2400 comes with
- a new, redesigned carbon frame with improved geometry
- full shimano tiagra groupset (even the crankset)
- threaded bottom bracket
- AND does not come with the very debated integrated lights and smartsense, and since I don't like these features, I consider this a plus

And due to the supply issues we all know about, it can be expected to have a price increase. So, honestly, I have to reconsider my opinion.

Is the 2022 model expensive? Yes, I still think it is
Is the 2021 model a much bigger robbery? Absolutely

Yeah, when I bought my new bike last summer, the Synapse was one of the ones I looked at - but for the Carbon version, it was £300 more than the Cube I bought, for basically the same spec.

The alu framed ones were cheaper, but still under-specced compared to other models at similar price points.

I used to have a Synapse and loved it. I am fully into the Garmin ecosystem including the Varia radar (it's ace). Mudguard mounts on a carbon frame, brilliant. Threaded bottom bracket, excellent.
However, the price and that stupid battery means there is absolutely no chance I would consider one. The Giant Defy seems a far better buy.
