Not in reverse then ? Ending up with the wet wipes to mop your fevered brow !It's mainly dirt and grease from sitting around for so long on the top tube and upper rear stays so will carry on cleaning and see what it comes up like , using a mix of wet baby wipes . white spirit , fine wire wool and cutting compound mainly in that order .

Do you use the fine wire wool on the paintwork?
I second that...l use 1000 grit steel wool . It comes in little individual pads . The one problem is that here in France it is not particularly cheap but then l suppose that encourages me to use it carefullyYes and as long as the wool is damp and fine it doesn't seem to mark the paint
