I have changed tack somewhat and found myself a big of a bargain. Deal not done yet, but sees me getting a £3,600 RRP bike for £2,000.

Very nearly pulled the trigger on a Trek Madone, which was also a great deal, but was very similar to my other bike so didn’t see the point.

Is that for a new bike fresh out of the box or a lightly used/ex-display one? I like a bargain myself, but a 44% discount to list price seems just too good to be true. If that's new from a dealer they must be operating at a hell of a big mark-up to be able to discount like that without losing money on the sale!.

Not until the deal is sealed. Won’t be to everyone’s tastes but it ticks the boxes for my needs/wants.

The other option was £3.5k for a £5.8k bike. Bonkers prices for bikes, but very desirable!

Yup. New bike out of the box. Confirmed that from the outset.

There are genuine bargains out there like this, where the distributors discount outgoing models. Sometimes they end up being sold to the end user. Sometimes the bikes shops buy them up.

The markup remains the same for the dealer, I was told when I got my last bike, but the distributor gets paid less and hence the manufacturer too. That’s where the saving can be made. They clearly make good money throughout the year and can afford to make a small profit or break even with the last remaining models.

New frame designs and new groupsets, or a combination of both, gets the better deals.

I very much doubt it's the sort of bike I would buy, or even like - but I have to admire you for getting a deal like that where there's real money involved. My bargain bike purchases probably cost no more than what you would pay for a replacement road tyre!

Getting to the nitty gritty in a bike claim and starting to look around for something new.

I keep getting drawn to the same bikes and am therefore looking for a bit of inspiration on what I may purchase next. I am ideally looking for a deal on a more expensive dream bike, but also happy to look at less expensive options at full price too. Will be solely for road use, as never go off road or on the trails.

I won’t taint responses with the bikes that I am currently eyeballing.

Feel free to post up suggestions on Road bikes, whether Aero, Lightweight or Endurance.

I’d get one of these and put my bikes in it.

I hear you on both counts.

Please don’t think I am as extravagant as this is any other area of my life though. This is my one and only vice, so can live with spending hard earned cash on the one thing that I enjoy.

That’s as big as my whole garden though!

I love the clock. As though passers by could glance up and know what time it is.

Seriously though, with £3000 to spare I’d get somewhere I can work on my bikes, turbo and hang them up in all their glory.
