Another good reason to not adopt disc brakes on road bikes.

I have a Hybrid with hydraulic disc brakes. It’s the lowest mileage / KJ bike in my collection. The brake pads have worn out, so I had to get new ones. Wanting to keep the same parts it came with, I bought these bad boys. With BC discount, nearly 30 quids worth:eek:. I think I’ll stick to...

    Hard to pull brakes

So, I just fitted some 105 rim brakes to replace some not so great tektro ones. Since fitting the front is 10x better but the rear is incredibly hard to pull. It springs back open fine, its just hard to squuze the lever. Any ideas? Im stumped.

Hi, I bought a hybrid bike with hydraulic brakes a few months ago, and I am just not getting in with the brakes. We've got some pretty big hills round here and a couple of times I have had to get off and walk on a downhill because I either feel like I am not going to stop (because Of pumping...

Question about brake cable's outer casing (in a frame with internal cabling)

Hello! Okay, it is most likely another silly question, but I just want to be sure and I hope someone (who has similar bike frame - which has partial internal cabling) will clarify to me this situation of mine  I am setting up my first custom bike based on the Specialized Diverge A1 (2016...

Pinnacle Arkose - brakes opinions please

Looking at the Arkose 1 today for Mrs C and was pretty impressed, all round good bike. The brakes were the immediate weak point. They really felt quite poor, Tektro Spyres, so I was wondering whether they can be improved or to spend the extra and go for the Arkose 2 with hydraulic brakes. You...

Post mount disc brakes - cracked carbon

hi, I have a carbon fork on my CX bike, which has post mount brakes. I was giving the bike a good clean (in readiness for selling it), and I noticed what appears to be a crack in the underneath of the post mount for the brake. Is this a crack in the carbon, and is this now a dangerous bike to...

New springs for v brakes (rear) possible?

OK, the rear brakes are of the v type, the caliper arm springs are loaded into the caliper Base, and fit into one of 3 holes, and the other end of the spring is controlled by a grub screw (cannot find a brand name on caliper, except it says Logan I think on the underside) can i replace these...

Disc brakes ..... Any cleaning and wheel changing tips?

I am soon to become the owner of a new bike .... my first to be fitted with cable disc brakes. So cue a couple of rookie questions: (1) Is there any difference to the technique of removing/refitting the wheels that I should be aware of? (2) It strikes me that cleaning the cassette now...

Disc brakes on a touring bike

I used to tour with a Specialized sirrus elite. My reason for using this bike was.. It is light, I can carry it on my shoulder once packed in to a canvass or soft bag. I can easily fit different tyre sizes (28 to 40) depending on the terrain that I intend to cycle. Very simple, it has rim...

    Long reach caliper brakes

I want to put some 26" wheels on a frame that originally had 28" wheels, but then the brakes will not reach the rims, is there any body who sells the extra long reach ( I will need a reach of 95 - 100mm ) or can anybody advise on a modification that can be made?

    Cantilever 700C frame/Cantilever brakes

After a Cantilever 700C frame, just to use as a tourer/cross/commuter as I'd like something that can fit bigger tyres in to get offload a little more, as well as some cantilever brakes. Not too fussed if it's alloy or steel.

    Wot, no brakes - ? !

Seen locked to a cycle stand in Norwich yesterday, a trendy looking single speed with flip-flop rear wheel, Muddy Fox logos and - no brakes fitted. So is the rider/owner either completely nuts, or does he/she have an unshakeable faith in their ability to stop sharp in an emergency - ?

http://road.cc/content/news/224079-cyclist-gets-own-back-caravan-towing-driver-who-almost-knocked-him-his-bike-link I think this is rather good, but if the driver wasn't told of his poor & dangerous driving, somewhat pointless. At least if you open the back door of a car to tell the driver to...
