Hi there,
I've recently had my bars stolen on a vitus energie 2018 model and after looking at replacing the apex hydraulic shifters.. its not something I can afford right now, and so I am considering changing to a mechanical system for the sake of both my wallet and the simplicity of it (also...
i am going to be looking at an Ice Adventure with front drum brakes. Looking online there are various opinions on drum brakes but has anybody got real world experience of them? This trike is virtually new and no idea yet why it is for sale so a bit wary. Not that I think there is anything dodgy...
My sons Hot-rock 24 has rim brakes, he love trawling through mud, their constantly clogging up. the bike has mounts for disk brakes? any suggestions for mechanical disk brake upgrade?
Also the gears are the shitty twist grips which he finds hard to change gear, is there an option for rapid fire...
I have mechanical disk brakes on my mountain bike. So far they've never failed to stop me, but they're not great.
The issues I face are:
1. It takes quite a bit of force to brake hard. Not too much force. But on a fairly fast downhill trail I need at least two or three fingers on a brake...
I'm based in the Czech Republic and the brakes on bikes here are the wrong way round. i.e. right lever is rear brake, and left is front. Took a little bit of getting used to at first.
Anybody know why they are like this?
was about to bleed the brakes on newly bought bike (new for me) - well actually just try to Burp them by removing the top cover first as don't want to order/wait for those kits.
Had a bottle of dot4 fluid..until I saw written on the brakes - Mineral oil...
What oil do you HAVE to use for these...
Hi all, do people know if I would see a marked brake performance increase if I change the stock Merida callipers with 105 5800 ones?
Also if I went down this route, how easy is it to change over and setup the replacement callipers for a complete novice.
I am building up a tourer and ordered a load of parts for it. Wish me luck!
On the brake front it has disc mounts and I have opted for TRP HY/RD brakes.

Hello everyone,
I have a Mountain Bike called a Carrerra Vengeance. Got it from Halfords just 6 months ago here:

There's been a few issues, one of which is the brakes. When...
This bargain any good to anyone?
£160+ to buy if you need spares!
Super cheap as have cosmetic rub/wear (see pics) to inside of top of one pair however this is hard to see when mounted as on inside of brakes. With nodules and pads with plenty of life left
Price inc 2nd class postage (excludes...
Got some Promax mechanical disc brakes on my Caadx and the replacement pads are essentially a copy of the BB5 pads. Removing was easy enough but fitting new ones!!!??? Can't see at all how you can squeeze them both in, along with the clip that goes between them. Am I missing out a vital step?
My Genesis CdF has Hayes CX Expert cable disk brakes. I have been told that fitting compressionless housings will improve their performance.
Is this true that there would be a noticeable difference, and are the Jagwire Pro kits the best option?
Another question, is there a cheap but good...
Hi,
new to disc brakes and my Boardman came with "Tektro Lyra mechanical road disc brakes". To be polite they are a heap of sh!te so was wondering if anyone could recommend an upgrade?
Hello.
I have a Dawes 401 discovery, year 1992, as far as I can see. It's old but essentially still a solid very usable bike apart from some brake problems.
The front brake cable had lost a metal jacket section that clips onto the brake bracket(which is attached to the front fork).
The metal...
Just found out I need a new brake caliper for the commuter bike
Front brake started scraping during a canal towpath ride a couple of days ago and a quick inspection revealed pads were getting a bit worn and the piston on one side was out more than the other. Today I finally got around to...
Hello All,
As my main commuter bike needs a refurb ( I've run it into the ground) I have decided to speed up the conversion of my project bike and have just purchased some Trekking bars and an adjustable quill stem (the project is old 80's road bike which I'm converting for both commuting and...
..... as in a previous post of mine, a friend was selling a Boardman CX Comp. He only bought it about nine months ago and hated it.
So, he suggested I borrow it for a week to see if I like it.
I now have another bike lol. Still getting used to it but as it`s this first bike I`ve ever had...
Shimano 6700 Ultegra brakes calipers with brand new pads.
Used but in great condition other than the rear one that has rub marks on the underside from where it has rubbed on the mudguard, but these cannot be seen when the brake caliper is fitted to the bike.
£50
Used set of Campagnolo Veloce front and rear brakes, selling due to now being surplus to requirements. Dual pivot calliper brakes for better braking action, and Shimano brake pads (which still have loads of rubber left in them, as shown in the pictures).
These are circa 2010 Veloce (as far as...
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/trp-hy-rd-cable-actuated-hydraulic-disc-brake-caliper/
I have these on a Genesis Equilibrium. I have been having a bit of trouble getting the rear actuating arm to return back to its original off position after use. It isn't binding or anything so have just ignored it...
How to I pull the brake cable through to allow me some more length? When I pull the brake lever, it hits off the handlebar: i need some more give in it (I hope you know what I mean!). I've got a BMC road bike.
I have replaced old cantilevers on MTBs with vee brakes and have read that you can not fit vee brakes to a road bike because of the pull ratio?
Now does it really not work? I have an old Galaxy i bought a few weeks ago and fitted bar top levers and the cantilevers work better with the bar top...

I'm replacing the brake blocks on my no.1 road bike, which has alloy wheels, and have realised that the only replacement blocks I have are meant for carbon rims.
Will using brake blocked designed for carbon on alloy rims cause any problems or be less efficient than blocks specifically designed...
Hey there, everyone! I am mechanically inclined but fairly basic as far as bike knowledge (I'm no Bicycle Repair Man!) and have something on my bike that just bugs me!
I have V-brakes, they are Tektro brand if that makes a difference. My problem is that no amount of fiddling will get my brake...
