6pm is a bit hit and miss for me. Mainly miss. I’d be grateful if we could keep one race at 7pm
Some people can't make 7pm, some can't make 6pm. That's why we settled on doing Tuesday at 7pm and Thursday at 6pm to accommodate as many people as possible. Obviously for the next league starting on Sunday - the Tour De Zwift stages - we'll have plenty of choice for times as can do any time Zwift are running the stages

Yes I get that no problem. I see some discussion about different timings and I was saying I’d need one race to be at 7 for me to get involved Is all.

I don’t think I’ll do the tour of watopia. I might do some of the stages but I think I like smaller field events normally so I might pick and choose the courses I enjoy. But if I do race I’ll try join the ones you guys are in.

OK, here are the Strava segment times from last night's handicap race - which was great fun! (sorry, "fun"), and which was won by @CXRAndy although I don't think he's mentioned it :rolleyes:

Bridgy - 34:39
@berty bassett - 34:54
@peterob - 36:10
@Brusgaard - 37:55
@Del C - 37:57
@CXRAndy - 38:01
@Freelanderuk - 39:34
@Marino.g - 42.03
@Joffey - 56:05

I have used these times to work out handicap times gaps for the re-run, which I propose we do on Thursday at 6pm. Only two people improved their times from October - Andy by 9 seconds (that was that sprint finish!), and Pete by a whopping 1 minute 18. Anyone with an improved time I have used that new time for the handicap because that's obviousy a good indication of current form. For everyone else who was slower, I have worked out your handicap on an average of your October time and yesterday's (because you're obviously capable of better :ninja:)

If anyone else who couldn't ride last night wants to join in on Thursday at 6pm let me know and I'll work you out a handicap and add you to this list:

If joining Thursday's race, you'll need access to a stopwatch of some sort (preferably separate to your phone which you may want to use for messages on the Companion App). When the countdown starter gets to zero, start your stopwatch, and go when the time reaches your allocated tiime above. Ifyou want to keep pedaling while you wait for your time, press "A" to go to the pairing screen which will stop your avatar moving - obviously whilst keeping an eye on your stopwatch.
Doing a session later to test out the back and see how it holds up. If all not too bad then I should be able to join tomorrow.

Given the length of times to wait until we start, is it worth us just logging in to Zwift and selecting the correct course ourselves, at the correct time, rather than a 'meetup'. That way we can warm up ourselves, then when it's time to go, log back in to Zwift on the correct course and head off? I'm just thinking that it will be a very boring 20 minutes spinning in the same spot waiting for our 'off' time. Just a thought?

Login to Zwift on whatever course you like and ride around until 2 minutes before meetup start. Then join the meetup and spin until 10-20 seconds to go for the first rider, then stop, wait for avatar to stop and then go to pairing screen. Set your stopwatch/phone to count down to which ever time you are to start. 2-3 secs before your start time, exit the pairing screen and start riding. Worked absolutely fine yesterday.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't see the Thursday start times before posting - I get your point now! :okay:

Does anyone know of an equivalent to pressing A on Apple TV?

You can press Menu on the Apple TV controller, which takes you to the main Zwift menu screen. You can select pair from there. So it looks like it takes two steps on Apple TV, unless somebody knows otherwise?

Just pedalling on the main menu screen doesn't stop your avatar, so I just sat on the bike until my start time last night. Doing that for 18.30 might be a bit of stretch!

Final question. I'll try this later myself, but if you go to the pair screen, do you then cancel or accept the pairings before leaving the pair page? I'm assuming that you'll be paired from when you fire up the Zwift app, but I'm nit sure if that pairing is affected if you then go to the pairing screen as @bridgy proposes?

Could do, but the length of time it takes to log out of zwift. log back in, and load the required route would probably not make it worth the effort I reckon - not to mention very hard to judge the timing right. I think what Steen has described above works well. Also, last night I found the time waiting for the start went surprisingly quickly.

Edit: Just joining zwift separately outside of a meetup also loses the feature of having fellow meetup racers highlighted green which is a useful thing

As far as I'm aware there's no shortcut to the pairing screen on Apple TV so you'll have to use the two steps as you say - I assume your avatar also stays stationary in pairing screen though. If you press "OK" from the paring screen that works fine - not sure what happens with "Cancel" but if you haven't changed anything it'll probably be fine too - but "OK" if you're not sure!

I don't think it is possible to late join a meetup, correct?

Sorry that you are now sat around for 15-20 minutes due to my handicap... hopefully I'll improve rapidly!!!

In my defence on Tuesday I set out far too hard and died 5 miles in so hopefully I can bring my time down a bit tomorrow.

Sorry again! :cry:

No worries @Joffey - I hope a bit of racing gives you the incentive to push yourself that little bit harder in order to increase your fitness. I can assure you that most of the people now battling for race wins were not anywhere near the front of races when we first started (on Bkool) a few years ago. You've joined us at a good time actually as this is the first time we've tried doing handicap races on Zwift. Now we have your handicap right you're going to have a big incentive to ride hard to keep everyone behind you until the line on Thursday!

while waiting on the line , could you go into the garage / settings menu and pedal for a bit then press back ? or do you move while in the garage ?

The latest on the poll remains Thursday 6pm. This was a one off to accommodate the handicap race - the majority of weeks we will stick to the Tues 7pm and Thurs 6pm slots as that seems to suit most people.
I’m not 100% confirmed for Thursday but go with the majority and don’t change plans.
Just for consideration we could just estimate a handicap for each person and then allow people to ride at a time that suits them. I get it that this would take away the hare and hounds element that a meet-up would bring, but this would get majority taking part. Just a thought for the future.
