This is the bit I'm a bit unsure of in the way Zwift does their draft effect - it almost feels like the whole group gets a speed boost including the guy in front I have been solo chasing to re-catch a group a few times and my w/kg have been way higher than the leader of the group and I still can't catch up. IRL you only have to go a little quicker than the guy in front to catch up with the group - doesn't seem so in Zwift?

Bridgy, that is exactly my point. I think the reason breaks don't stay away is that the big group goes faster than they should based on the power of the rider at the front of the group. The extra speed is generated by the number of riders not the power of the lead rider(s).

Why now? Is the question.

I think with the e-sport proposal from the UCI, and the possibility of a rainbow jersey, there had to be something done to make the sim more realistic.

It would be interesting if there were numbers to back that up. Do you mean they go faster than they should because Zwift rewards bigger groups un naturally rather than the fact bigger groups go faster naturally because they share the work load more?

I think you guys are under estimating the effect of group riding. But you have more Zwift experience than me....

I know in the real world, if you want to attack off the front of a group that’s going at the limit, I’d just say good luck to you!

I’d be interested to see numbers to back it up.

I've not seen it definitively confirmed but have read that this is the case. Empirically it looks like it as well - I have chased a group where I can see the leaders are kicking out the same or less watts than me, but they are still getting away.

There is some dynamic of riding in a pack that makes you go faster. This is true in real life also. I think its because all riders receive some form of shelter except for a direct head wind, then it's just the guys on the front. This allows a higher pace than being solo. I'd like a noticeable drop in effort when nestled in the pack . If they have too fast a pace for a big group maybe a tweak to the algorithm to reduce the pack affect.

We could put it to the test couldn’t we. There’s enough of us here to replicate the same scenario. I know where my money would be but I wouldn’t be overly surprised either way

Mate I know what mean regarding the discount. Just depends how bad you want it or how much self control you have! ^_^

I hope all is gettin well. I use to have thrombosis in my right calf (8-years ago), symptoms was strong cramp. Since then when i feel cramps in a sama area i have shivers in my spine and it make nervous and it makes me stressful which is not good.
Yea, I've got two DVTs in my left leg in addition to the one that migrated into my lungs yesterday. So I'll be on thinners again, but I expect to be cleared to gently ride Monday. But racing is off the table for a while again.

I'd had a strong cramp in my hamstring in Thu afternoon, but I never would have imagined it was a DVT making its way up to wreck havoc. It felt just like any other muscle cramp. By the evening I had that familiar pain under my collarbone and general discomfort. By the time I woke up Friday morning I knew I was heading straight to the hospital.

Nightmare. Do you know what is causing them?
