Michael Were your numbers from the CCC group event good enough for upgrade?. It seems every ride is now logged for potential promotion 😳

Alex is upto speed on which data points to be weary of. If you look at your Zwift page you can see your zftp etc

@mjd1988 If you check out this post it shows you how to look up your CE metrics and it will tell you which one changed recently
https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/zwift-bkool-splitter-chat.215190/page-3854#post-6948214

Either something changed in one of your 60-day bests that increased your zFTP (CP) above 3.36 w/kg or you did an effort in the 5.5-8 minute region that increased your zMAP above 4.2 w/kg

What’s the benefit of being wary of numbers rather than seeking to ride to the best of your ability?

I don't mean you have to be in the sense of holding back, but to be aware of the them. Mine are above

When you're right on the threshold of categories and you want to serve out the season on your team without getting booted it can be quite useful. I missed it by 1 race, getting booted (but not DQed) after semi-final 1. But for your information the whole "you're a sandbagger if you don't do things my way" culture in Cyclechat is a big part of why I've chosen to ride in another team for my B career. (Also not having to ride evenings is about 50% of it though).

(Edit to add clarity: This 'cultural issue' is not an issue in CCC at all.)

That feels more than a little like a swipe, Alex? Are you accusing me of something? It seems as though you’re suggesting I’m somehow personally responsible (at least in part?) for you choosing to ride in another team. Is that what you’re saying, or have you been clumsy with your words there?? Perhaps you’d like to send me a PM?

I’m asking what the benefits of being wary of the numbers are. You articulated one, perhaps there are others. I’ve got no idea what the new category system is, how it works, or how it plays out in a league or competition.

Sorry - been unwell. Not intended as a personal swipe. Sorry I pounced on your post.

Are you accusing me of something?
Definitely not. On the back of all the comments made in this forum this year about sandbagging, perhaps I read more into your post than was meant to be there? I thought you were having a dig. I did get very pissed off when Carl was being bullied though (not by you) and decided I was switching teams at the end of the season. Now that's happened I don't feel like I need to keep quiet about it.

Since the Cs are a natural feeder for the Bs, it seems to me that it would be prudent for the Bs to nurture and encourage the top Cs rather than call them sandbaggers when they do well.

No. You've hardly been around. Sorry I accidentally made it personal. I've nothing against you at all.

No worries @alex_cycles - and apologies from me in the wording of my post. I didn’t mean to open any wounds.

I don’t know about the new cat system, except that it’s based on more than one metric. Does that mean there’s more than one category e.g for sprint vs climb vs TT events? Is it the best of all the metrics that determines cat? A weighting between them? A simple average? It could be ultimately flawed and there’s a particular metric that you need to be “wary” of because it skews the cat?

I generally found the old system to be flawed but just riding every event at 100% did get you into the right pen generally (unless it was actively avoided, but I’m not going to use the S word!)

I’ve always enjoyed racing with, and occasionally against you Alex and long may that continue 🙂

Before It was based mainly around 20 mins W/kg. So light riders were always more at risk when putting in a big effort up a long climb. Now it's seems to cover 1min right upto 20 mins power. So sprinters who can push big Watts can be spotted and bumped category.

There are always going to be questions over the boundary figures of who is a A,B,C,D cat but it's a bit fairer now. The actual algorithm is secret so good luck finding the information

I am think results should be factored in too. If a rider regularly wins then maybe going up a category through promotion too
