Helo Cc'ers, been a while.
The reason is that I was involved in a near fatal accident. I"m afraid I will not be able to ride a normal bike ever again, as I'm currently paralysed from the waist down.

However, I'm looking into getting a hand driven bike to fit in a home trainer, so you may be seeing me on Zwift some time in the future ^_^

How many pages do I need to go back to keep me up to date:eek:

So hard to respond to such news other than to say that I can't imagine what you've gone through and i'm so sorry this has happened. I hope that whatever you are going through you know we are all here for you.

As @Norry1 says your attitude seems amazing.

Oh God! That's terrible news!

The only good thing is that it wasn't fatal and I'm in awe at your positive attitude.

I just thought you'd disappeared for the summer riding and TTing outside. Never ever would I have guessed what had really happened.

I don't know from your post whether the paralysis is permanent? I hope not but suspect it may be if you're looking for a hand bike.

Whichever way it goes, I hope your recovery is as swift as it can be and that you're back on here and riding with the rest of us on Zwift as soon as you can.

Lars mate, so sorry to hear this. I pm’d you recently and I know others were concerned we hadn’t heard from you. I am just glad you are alive and thinking of finding a way to cycle again. Looks like hand cycling will be your new time trialing👍 Lots of hand cyclists and expertise on the zwift Facebook groups. My very best wishes to you Lars.

Feck Lars, where to even start and what to say! My heart goes out to you and sending you all the best - not that anything I say is of any help. Really sorry mate and sending you loads of love.

Lars, your post was a real shock and very hard to read. I can’t imagine what you’re going through but really wish you all the best.

I hope to be riding with you on Zwift soon, and in the mean time I will be thinking of you.

Like everyone else here I’m shocked and saddened to hear your news Lars, but deeply encouraged that you are looking forward to getting on with things and on to a hand bike.

I welcome the day when we can all get back into the Zwift world with you again.

Thanks all. A room mate here at the hospital, has kept all life style diseases at bay by ridning a hand bike every day for 40 years. He also managed to take care of himself, without any help at all.
I intent to do the same.

As for my chances of regaining control of my legs, it doesn't look good. Back broke in 3 places. 2 metal stiffening are keeping things in place.

Oh crap, sorry to hear that Lars! I must admit I did google you, when you stopped posting here and nothing registered on Strava either. Didn't find anything about you however, except that you hadn't died.

There is a guy (Michael Løje Naumann) in one of the Danish Zwift groups which uses a hand cycle with Zwift, maybe he can give you some pointers?
Thanks Brusgaard. I didn't know there were hand bike folks in Zwift. Do you know how to contact him?

Lars I’m so sorry mate. I feel very sad. But I’m also very happy you’re ok.

I’m going to send you a pm. I think I might be able to help you in a small way. Best wishes my friend.

Well I did the race up the Alpe this evening, and by all accounts it was a good ride on paper:
  • FTP increase 253W > 276W
  • 2nd place out of 37 on Zwift Companion
  • DQ’d in Zwiftpower for being over power :blush:
  • Unlocked the light meilenstein wheels (probably spelled differently?)
  • Climbed the ZwiftInsider Alpe segment in 45:21

  • But I feel really quite subdued after the news this evening. We all have our struggles in life but there are some here who are really quite open with some big things and I admire your bravery and spirit. I feel like a few things in my life have been put into perspective to be honest. Going to have a chat with the missus this evening - she will probably wonder what has come over me, I’m not usually the emotional type!
